I honestly day dream about winning cups, no lie. I'm not sure what I'd do with myself being surrounded by 30'000 Evertonians and Queens We are the Champions, is belted out followed by Z-cars. It couldn't be anymore limbs, I'd self combust with joy.

He provided a that, baring in mind it's the last 90 minutes of the season (so nothing to bring me back down to ground) I'd be hard pushed to come on here and want him out vocally, no mater how much I was goaded.

I've never wanted him and stood to that and took any opportunity to stick it to him, but he provides a cup win then, I'll give him the fist half of the first match next season to get us going.

Can't say fairer than that.
You have to start dreaming about something big mate...leave these toys for Wigan to cherish...

you minx...

Dunno where to post this, be arsed making a new thread but it'll probably turn into a pro/anti Martinez one so I'll put it here.

Watching some videos of us in around 2008-2010, and I miss that team. The best one I can remember seeing (I was a nipper in the 80s). If you compared today's team to the team in the late 2000s:

Howard/Robles = split

Hibbert/Coleman = Coleman
Jags/Jags = same player
Lescott/Mori = Lescott
Baines/Baines = same player

Osman/Lennon = Osman
Arteta/McCarthy = Arteta
Fellaini/Barry = Fellaini
Pienaar/Cleverly = Pienaar

Cahill/Barkley = Cahill
Yakubu/Lukaku = split

It's probably very opinionated, for example obviously Lukaku is going to be the better player than Yakubu over his career but the Yak was World Class that season, but I don't see this magical team everyone talks about? I think we peaked at the FA Cup Final against Chelsea and have been on a steady decline since barring the odd blip like Martinez's first season.

This isn't a pro or anti Martinez post, just bouncing a few thoughts around. Are we really that much better, and are we over rating a lot of our players?

I have been contesting the received wisdom around these parts that this is the "best squad in 30 years" business all season.

When you put it down on paper like that you see the comparison more starkly.

My two bits.

Howard/Joel.......Howard circa 2008 better than Joel now IMO

Hibbo/Seamus.....Seamus

Jags/Jags....N/A

Lescott/ Mori or Stones.....Lescott

Baines/Baines....N/A

Ossie/Lennon.....Ossie

BUT

Ossie/Del.....Del

Arteta/McCarthy....wee Mikky

Felli/Barry.....Barry (because although I never rated him much until he came here and watched his work at first hand, I can only imagine how good he must have been eight years ago when still in his prime)

Pienaar/Cleverley or Mirallas.....Peinaar

Cahill/Ross.....Timmy for his all round attributes but I would be looking to play Ross somewhere in the team.

The Yak/Rom....Rom, by virtue of the fact he never had it put on a plate for him the way The Yak did.

Add to that the fact that the two constants in the different eras, Jags an Baines, were a lot younger back then, the team of circa 2008 was better than today's team IMO.

Though to be fair, having written it down, not by as much as I thought.

We have 3 or 4 top class youngsters that are overly exciting far too many to believe that the majority of the average squad are guns.
Just my opinion of course.

And at £28m it wasn't exactly a shot in the dark

True. you could call it brave in retrospect, I mean, consider what would have happened to us should he have done a Kone...

Quite a gamble then, but this one worked for us. And I hope we get the sort of profit Moyes generated on Rooney, fell, lescott, Rodwell etc.
