Wigan boss Roberto Martinez:
"Overall I look at the game and, if I'm honest, I would've been disappointed with a draw let alone a defeat. It (the penalty) was a soft decision, but then all afternoon not a single break went our way.

"I thought the players deserved a lot out of the game, but the key moments went against us. A defeat doesn't reflect the effort we put in at all.

"The character in the squad has never been in doubt. We're growing in every game and the results are not reflecting the good work of the players in the league, I don't think we're getting what we deserved.

"But you can see the progress on the pitch nonetheless and if we keep improving as we are, we'll be OK."

Oh wow

I've just changed my vote and think martinez should be sacked. I'm not bothered about his rambling press conferences because every other manager talks crap as well. 14th place simply isn't good enough.
I wanted him to succeed but it looks to me like he's now lost the confidence of the players.some of whom should be ashamed of themselves

That was today, you just changed the date and club name and added a penalty for dramatic effect.

That's so scary just shows he's never going to change.

Davek is absolutely right in that regard - the negativity doesn't help anyone. Banging the drum positively in support of the manager, including through adversity, is the best way to help the team. Difficult for most to contain themselves though

But that last bit you wrote is a tad brainless and ignorantly puts everybody into a category, something that the poster you are referring to is massively guilty of in most of his posts.

Most on here see it as rude and very egotistical, which is hard to take as most of the football related posts by that poster made no sense at all, particularly when facts were put at him and he ignored or dodged direct questions which destroyed his argument.

Your other point about banging the drum for the manager being the way forward in difficult times is also a huge pile of cak too or at least very subjective IMO.

So Newcastle fans banging the drum for Mclaren were right were they? No of course they weren't and never were any of the posters backing Martinez, the proof is in the league table tonight.

So you're saying he's an obvious WUM who removes the actual conversation from the topic onto himself by stating contradictory points on purpose, not because he believes them; i.e. he's a troll.

Probably why he's banned mate. x
no.

I'm saying he said something tongue in cheek and a load of melodramatic bellwhiffs overreacted and pissed their pants crying.

;)

People want Roberto to admit the weaknesses in his media interviews - but is that necessary? Important thing is that behind closed doors he's recognising and addressing them - appreciate no evidence of that at present

Fair point. You can't constantly slate the players in the media. However he has to realise he has been doing himself no favours with his blame game waffle for last year. To me it just shows he has very little respect for everton supporters and their football knowledge. As as I'm on it He should have been advised to leave off the phenomenal and incredible jargon after the first month just as not to rub in his smug image.

For this to work relies on the powers that be at the top to act when necessary. Problem is the alarm bells have been ringing at Everton for over a year now - time to act and bring in Jose
Adversity is when it happens for one season. Then when it happens the next one it's just alarms. When in said season it's even worse than the "adversity" one, then how exactly are you supposed to be positive?

Bet half the people don't even watch the games with desire anymore - you just know you'll be frustrated, you can tell what's gonna happen way before the game even starts, and even if we start our strongest team we're still crap.

#positivity, week in - week out of the same garbage, yeah...
