For me, it's Martinez failing to sort out our defence over an entire season that is the most damning judgement of his abilities as a manager.

Our defending is disgusting, that's the only way I can describe it, basic mistakes all season, poorly organised, no cohesion whatsoever.

I'm ashamed at the way it is so easy to score against us, and Martinez has done nothing to address it, his coaching staff are a joke from the lower leagues, not one top pro amongst them, players need to respect coaches by seeing a coach that has been there and done it at a high level.

Martinez has had more than a fair crack of the whip to get things right, he wouldn't get the time he's had here at any other club in the league, and that's because we have Bill at the helm, the sooner he's away from making any decisions here the better.

Gary monk got the bullet pronto when things started to slide, Swansea still haven't replaced him, and he had a better record than Martinez had over the period that got him the sack, with a poorer squad to ours, much poorer.

Martinez seems not to want to fix it, though - defensive howlers / lack of organization are all hallmarks of his sides. I also wonder how much influence coaches have over tactics (especially with regards to defence) - I can remember Dennis Lawrence playing for Wrexham and he /they did not defend as badly as we do.

The point you make is accurate. I was on the fence until the Stoke game right from the first whistle they had 3 players running us ragged and we still managed to get our noses in front 3-2 with 20 minutes left. The fact that RM didn't address the danger men in the opposition meant we ended up losing. I don't know much about the tactics but I was flabbergasted he didn't close it down. Since then it's happened on several occasions, he hasn't learned a thing. Ossies book seems to confirm that he doesn't work on defensive set pieces, is this the reason Distin left? Get rid as soon as no point waiting until 10 games into next season. Given the time RM would certainly relegate Everton.

i don't want him out as much as some other people to be honest...even though i thought he was a bad appointment originally. Martinez is one of the good guys...a likeable kind of a charachter whose just had a bad run. A couple of injuries and alot of confidence sapping last minute defeats have us where we are. off the top of my head - Bournmouth, Chelsea, West Brom, Stoke, Norwich & west ham (there could be more) - all games where we conceded late to drop points from winning positions. hold on for a win in even half of them and we are well up the table. I think his problem in those game is his reluctance to close up shop - i can never remember him making a defensive substitution.

In fairness, apart from Niasse most of his signings have been good. So with a bit of money this summer he might be able to bring in some top quality & surely will have learned from this season - I know i'm gonna be killed on here for this but he could so all right next year!!

We have had 2 disastrous league campaigns on the bounce mate, not sure that constitutes as a "bad run".

But in your own words "I think his problem in those game is his reluctance to close up shop" is not a very good trait for a top class football manager. He won't change, hell I don't even want him to change now!

It's just not worked for him, the players don't believe in his set up and neither do the fans, so at the end of the day what does he have left?

Hes saying that with cash to sign proven winners to supplement our gifted youngsters, Martinez may do a very good job.
I share the view.
I know lots of others who do too.
You're better than these types of posts Tubes.

He had £13.5m and spent it on Naisse

Proven winners? There's about to become a whole squad of winners at Leicester and every single one of them cost less that that.

You look at that Spurs side and nearly all their key players cost less than that each

Martinez has had money. Someone said £47.7m net in three seasons. He's had that opportunity.

This will swing Moshiri's decision

All the negativity around the manager will feed it's way back to Moshiri, I think he's done the right thing to be honest, the drip, drip effect gathers momentum and as you've seen even on here, supporters of Martinez have turned full circle, sometimes people just need guiding in the right direction for the greater good.

Mate if you have a scroll through my posts on this thread and the Moshiri thread you'll see that it is not Bill's decision, the Board will do as Moshiri demands. Martinez does not feature in Moshiri's vision of the future at Everton. The only remaining issue is timing, be it hours, days or end of season, no-one outside the club knows or has had an indication of his thinking on this subject.

Logically it should be now as there's no footballing reason for him to remain.
I would think Moshiri is learning a lot more about the club in these last few weeks than he did in the 18 months leading up to the purchase.

He signed McGeady.

We said last year - me included - that it could be alright this year, but it's too late now. He was lucky to get one more chance, and now it's time to go.

You don't get that many last minute defeats/draws by coincidence.

McGeady
Cleverly
Kone
Niasse
Alcaraz

None of the above would even have made a Walter Smith team. His insistence of shoe-horning Kone and Clev into the team, IMO, is a sackable offence.

Why is no-one talking about Cleverly's miss from 4 yards - why do we put up with the fact he is a league 1 standard player? As was Alcaraz, as is McGeady.

Not good enough. NSNO.

Since when has being a nice guy got anything to do with it? He can't manage and as stated by Thomasc the players are against him he simply has to be sacked.

Mcgeady, Alcaraz - agreed terrible,
Kone - has had his moments and didn't break the bank
Traore - was a loan and didnt play because of injury
Cleverly - hes done well and was free
McCarthy - i think hes been a good signing

what about the Lukaku, Del, Besic, Funes, Barry, Lennon...all decent signings

He has NOT done well! Are you blind. He is very close to my all time WORST Everton side.
In every attribute he is 3/10. Shocking player. He is a poor-mans Osman... not Osman at his peak - Osman NOW.
