What I mean is generally to see how bad things are and to blindly ignore them despite the terrible results is just madness. Fiddling while pompey burnt so to speak

It isn't a direct thing to you, i worded that wrong in that respect so apologies.
No worries at all mate.
I'm very much in the minority, I understand that!

I think his first season showed what he can do with a defence at the top of its game.
Sure, he was lucky that Howard, Distin, Jagielka, Baines and Coleman stayed injury free and were playing top stuff, but I think that's what you have to accept with Martinez. He needs a set of players throughout the spine who know exactly what they are doing and are playing well/injury free. It then gives the rest of the team licence to excite.

Look at what happened after that first season:

Howard - cliff, fell off
Distin - see Howard
Baines/Coleman/Ovideo - Poor fitness/injury record
McCarthy - hasn't kicked on
Barry - nearly died from all the games last season
Atsu - what is it?

I think too many things happened last season that would have been difficult to predict. Your in the summer before last season started having seen that team play like that and you surely can concede that it would be reasonable to think "right, get Lukaku in with the money we have and let's go again". It didnt, and he has no cash to do anything about it and, in his words, he spends it all on Lukaku.

At the beginning of this season he has got to find:

A right winger
A right back
A goalkeeper
A CB
A CM
A left winger

And guess what? He's got no money. If he did, he would have spent it. And I don't mean zero pounds, I mean he has no money to buy proven replacements, so he reverts to youth/cheap options:

Lennon - £4.5million is, in this era, a steal
Deulofeu - £3.3 million wasnt it? or something outrageous?
Funes Mori - 9.5mil because, reportedly, CP wanted £15mil for Dann
Clev - Free and can play a variety of positions

So he spreads his small 'fortune' on as many players as he can. I think he brought Lennon in because he knew Deulofeu would falter - as he did.

Who else? Matty Foulds? Shani Tara-whatever? (Niasse to follow) I may have missed someone but I am rushing!

I understand Niasse is used as a negative. I dont understand it but I dont believe we spent 13.5 million up front on him. As people have said, 13.5 is an outrageous amount of money which leads me to believe if we had spent that amount of money, he would have to play him. He's under no pressure to so at the very least it's staged payments with add-ons. Just my opinion anyway.

In my opinion, we have spent NOTHING which warrants the clamour for top 7. So for his money, what have we had. Inconsistency - without a doubt BUT:

At times we have played scintillating football that hasnt been seen at our beloved GP in years. It hasnt been often enough, granted, but we've seen glimmers of what he wants - fast, possession based and counter-attacking football. If he has the cash to bring in players at the back through the spine who can keep us solid when we are under the cosh, then the benefits are there to see.

I think its irrefutable that with:

A top GK
A top CB
A top CM
A top LM

All with PL experience and/or league winning experience that we wouldnt be challenging that top 7
.

Do I think he should be given the opportunity to bring those players in? Yes
Do I think he will? No
Do I think he can have any complaints? Very few

I think you've missed a glaring 28m hole where Lukaku was bought, and you cant casually glaze over 14mill on Niasse, upfront or staggered it looks a terrible, terrible deal. Kone.. 6mill.. oh well, he was badly injured after being an absolute state for the matches he missed sitter after sitter. Mori may well come good, he's a international CB tbf.
Bobby's had 1 good defensive year in his whole premiership tenure. Which was a Moyes drilled-unit, from which he told both fullbacks to get into the box, gambling a load of men forward- this has been completely found out and we've been piss poor at home, and conceed regularly via being countered.
The bolded bit isn't irrefutable as he's had quality players in most positions (bar LM/GK) that had achieved >top 7 and regular euro footy.
Fast football.. christ! Haven't seen any of that. We need quality additions, but more importantly, a quality manager first.

Not often enough? That's an understatement if I've ever seen one! In fact, it's almost bordering on the ludicrous being so inherently incorrect.

Away there's been some good football, but in the mainstay at home we've been dross. The overriding majority of home games have been woeful.

The very few glimmers of positive football that you mention have been few and far between, and easily overshadowed by slow, penurious play.

Enduring most of the performance Goodison Park this season has been soul destroying, so it's not as if we're even close to rectifying the situation.

And for whatever you may mention about not having substantial funds for the players he desirers, for me that's a glib answer to hide his failings.

In a league which next season will have the likes of Guardiola, Conte, Klopp and Pochettino, before even considering the possibly of José again...

... to go into next season with Martinez would be nothing short of perilous. He clearly doesn't use the squad he has got now correctly.

Therefore how can we trust him to use his future 'assets' (as he mentions) any better? Good managers make the best out of their players.

It pains me to say it but look at Klopp. Inherited a squad which is certainly not in his mould, yet now they're playing some great football.

Ranieri the same. Whereas Martinez has a core squad of talented players, yet seems so unable or unwilling to actually work to their strengths.

Bloody horrible this.

I want the bloke gone, but have no desire to see an intrinsicly decent man humiliated at the weekend. Which is very likely to happen.

Agreed, this course of no action is poor from the club, it reflects badly on all the board
