I think the problem with this is that you're almost saying we need players in every position who are so good that the manager becomes irrelevant. I don't think that will ever be the case.

Teams get hit by issues in football all the time. Injuries, star players leave or lose form etc. Good managers absorb these. For Martinez though everything seemingly has to be perfect for him to be even half capable. If one player is out then the whole thing falls down, and he needs a squad of 22 top quality players (something no one else in the league has).

I think it's a shame because there were times in the first season I thought he was onto something. But he has to be a manager not just someone who spells out what he would like to happen. I've no doubt Roberto can see what he wants to do but he doesn't have the skills to take the players with him to implement it.

I have always thought he would make a cracking director of football.
No mate, I mean we need a stronger core/spine.
We also need CBs who aren't learning their trade (Stones) or adapting to the country and the league (FM).
But these CBs cost big bucks as we found out last summer.

Don't want us to lose to Bournemouth on Saturday but we might have to to scare the board to get rid of Martinez
If he doesn't get sacked in the aftermath of a 70 hour sequence that saw us lose to our bitter rivals by a landslide and then lost the biggest game of our season via yet another late goal, no pointless defeat to Bournemouth will convince them.

LOL...like you'd turn your nose up at a huge payout just to appease angry fans.
Well, he claims he gets Everton and all that, surely if he does - he'd do the right thing, instead of saying he wants to be here 10 years more.

I see what you mean though, realistically he's not a fan or in any way attached to the club, so he might just be waiting for a big pay day.

Yep. His "Defining week" hasnt actually "Defined" much has it?

He stockpiled the money for Lukaku and spent his entire kitty, or at least the vast majority of it on him. I'm sure I said that in my novel earlier?

Yeah I'll take the one about Oumar. Bad signing, even simply from a fitness POV. Think I've said that too.

You may point to his Wigan record but I don't think its a good comparison. It's Wigan for Christ sake. They had Gary Caldwell and Bramble at CB.
Sure he could have made them more solid, would they have won the FA Cup? I very much doubt it.

In Moyes last season, werent we playing Neville and Osman CM? With Fellaini behind the striker? Jelavic or Anichebe up front?
Genuine question- who are these top 7 players he was left with at CM?
Moyes left a very good GK and back 4, a third of which fell off a cliff form wise after a season. Baines and Coleman have struggled for fitness ever since the end of season one under RM.

We replaced our entire midfield and attack when Martinez got here.

Moyes last season we played Fellaini behind Jelavic and in front of Osman and Gibson with Pienaar and Mirallas out wide. And Naismith, Neville and Anichebe were our main cover.

Martinez first season we played Barkley behind Lukaku and in front of Barry and McCarthy with Naismith and Mirallas out wide. And then Pienaar, Osman and Deulofeu were our main cover.

Same back 5 but no one else was the same.

I'd imagine he'd forfeit the remainder of his contract if he 'did the right thing'. That's a lot of dough to give up for 'doing the right thing'...and frankly based on his comments, he truly believes he is doing the right thing.

He will have to be sacked. The Board thread should be the busiest thread on here instead of this one. It's 100% in their hands.

I'm hearing up here in Glasgow that RM is to be Celtic's next manager. Not sure how true:

He'd have to take a monster pay cut - Neil Lennon got an increase going from Celtic to Bolton.

He could take a Championship side on for much more money.

Only link could be Scottish wife / looking to rebuild confidence elsewhere with quick wins.
