He sold Fellaini for 27m, bought Lukaku for about the same, that's not stockpiling.
He also spent big on McCarthy.
But he sold Anichebe, Jelavic, Fellaini all for good money didn't he?
He did say in that forum with supporters recorded, paraphrasing, "I don't like to purchase a few players for 4 or 5 million, instead I like to stockpile like I did for Lukaku".

He stockpiled the money for Lukaku and spent his entire kitty, or at least the vast majority of it on him. I'm sure I said that in my novel earlier?

Yeah I'll take the one about Oumar. Bad signing, even simply from a fitness POV. Think I've said that too.

You may point to his Wigan record but I don't think its a good comparison. It's Wigan for Christ sake. They had Gary Caldwell and Bramble at CB.
Sure he could have made them more solid, would they have won the FA Cup? I very much doubt it.

In Moyes last season, werent we playing Neville and Osman CM? With Fellaini behind the striker? Jelavic or Anichebe up front?
Genuine question- who are these top 7 players he was left with at CM?
Moyes left a very good GK and back 4, a third of which fell off a cliff form wise after a season. Baines and Coleman have struggled for fitness ever since the end of season one under RM.

With arguments like this you've got to either admit that Moyes was a genius or that Martinez is hopeless. One of these things has to be true to explain the drop in league form. Instead the lazy narrative comes out of Moyes as a hoofball merchant scraping 7th and poor Martinez being left with a rubbish squad.

To answer your question in the way you want it answered (a logical way would be to say they finished 7th therefore they were all top 7 players):

Baines - league's best LB without doubt
Coleman - in top 2 rbs without doubt
Jagielka - easily one of the league's top CBs
Distin - top 7 quality
Gibson - top 7 quality when fit
Fellaini - top 7 quality
Mirallas - had the ability to play in any team at that time, a huge talent
Naismith - top 7 quality
Pienaar - top 7 quality
Osman - top 7 quality
Jelavic - top 7 quality

I think his problem has been that he has replaced the creative players in the side with players of lesser quality. Gibson replaced by McCarthy, Pienaar - Cleverley, Mirallas - Deulofeu. Fellaini - Barkley.

Players in their prime were replaced by players not good enough or by young players. In each case though the performance level has gone down and with it the consistency of the team.

The failure to adequately replace Pienaar and Osman was crucial as they made the team in the first season tick. That link between the possession based middle two and the explosive front two. That's not been there since and in a desire to get it back we've brought centrebacks outoif defence, pushed full backs right up the pitch, and played wide players who cannot defend.

He also bought Deulofeu, Besic, Robles and other cheap players around 4 or 5m.. .
He also said thee was no reason to go return to Wigan for players in one of his first interviews..

The guy talks out of his rear

We did remarkably well at selling players under Martinz, I thought.

Sold Naismith, Anichebe, Fellaini, Duffy and Jelavic for a combined 60 million.

For 5 players, only one of which was really a nailed on starter for us, that's pretty damned good.

No surprise to see us second from bottom in the form guide.

http://www.premierleague.com/en-gb/matchday/form-guide.html

Our only win in the last 9 games was against ASTON VILLA in the Premier league. A team that would be near the bottom of the Championship if they actually played in it this season.

Since 13th February 2016
L - Everton 0-1 WBA
W - Aston Villa 1-3 Everton
L - Everton 2-3 West Ham
L -Everton 0-2 Arsenal
L - Man Utd 1-0 Everton
D - Watford 1-1 Everton
D - Crystal Palace 0-0 Everton
D - Everton 1-1 Southampton
L - Liverpool 4-0 Everton

Won 1, Drawn 3, Lost 5, Scored 7, Conceded 14

6 points out of 27.

We have only won 9 games all season, which is lower than everyone except Sunderland and the three clubs in the relegation zone. Bournemouth and Watford have won 11 games.

According to his press chat yesterday and in the papers today the team has made progress.

Is that Martinez or the club? Jelavic and Anichebe's values were arguably set by what they'd done under Moyes, ditto Fellaini (even though it was Moyes buying him).
