They were at the time mate, because they were starring in a side that kept coming 7th or above.

Osman gets ridiculous treatment on here. If we had a peak Osman now he would walk into this side and hands down be the best midfielder no question. He wasn't even in the top three midfielders at the club under Moyes when he was in his prime which tells you everything you need to know about how overrated our current midfield is and how underrated some of our older pros were in their day.

Osman Pienaar Arteta Gravesen in their Everton primes were a completely different class to McCarthy Cleverley Barry Barkley (Caveat on Barkley being he has been mismanaged, at least he has talent, the others are average).

I like your post mate apart from Osman. I have always thought he was rubbish, had a good game now and then but overall poor.

He stockpiled the money for Lukaku and spent his entire kitty, or at least the vast majority of it on him. I'm sure I said that in my novel earlier?

Yeah I'll take the one about Oumar. Bad signing, even simply from a fitness POV. Think I've said that too.

You may point to his Wigan record but I don't think its a good comparison. It's Wigan for Christ sake. They had Gary Caldwell and Bramble at CB.
Sure he could have made them more solid, would they have won the FA Cup? I very much doubt it.

In Moyes last season, werent we playing Neville and Osman CM? With Fellaini behind the striker? Jelavic or Anichebe up front?
Genuine question- who are these top 7 players he was left with at CM?
Moyes left a very good GK and back 4, a third of which fell off a cliff form wise after a season. Baines and Coleman have struggled for fitness ever since the end of season one under RM.
Seeing Moyes had such a tosh side he rarely finished bottom half. Martinez had plenty of time to get Wigans's backline sorted but never did. He's had a ton of money here to do the same and hasn't. He blew his wad on Lukaku, which as great as he is, is looking foolish if he had several glaring problems in the team to fix.
Wigan are exactly what we're being compared to now, with not too dissimilar results bar the absence of a FA cup. If we are gonna complain about the quality of Wigan's CBs, why can't he eke better results out of our squad. Moyes had Neville and Osman and still finished higher in the league- what does that say about Bobby? Because the midfield, and the attack are his signings. His whole footballing philosophy is a sham. Good coach, bad tactician, and not a leader of men.

Shocking that he is still in charge. I'm almost speechless. I had hoped that the board would have sent out a clear message today that NSNO is alive and well but instead I'm left feeling fearful for our future. Not good enough.

Yeah, agree.
Thought the board would have come to the decision to give him the black spot yesterday (Sunday) but allow him to say goodbye to the staff, players etc at Finch Farm today before announcing it to the press by 6pm at the latest.

Getting a horrible feeling that Grand Old Team himself is right that RM will be spending the Mosh Dosh this summer and leading us to a glorious 10th place next season

Ah nice one.
So, my point remains.
RM first season he "grows" his own attack based on a secure, in form, experienced back 5.

Then, early on into season two he realises that Distin can't concentrate, Howard can't catch and Coleman/Baines can't keep fit.

To me, it's understandable that ever since we've had a glass jaw.
It wasn't broke till bobby touched it. x

LOL...Jelavic was terrible bar a couple of good months...no way a top 7 player. Osman? Meh...in his prime he was a decent player...which was a long time ago (although he was very good in Martinez's first season). Naismith is terrible at football...no way a top 7 player. He's a crap squad player that has decent movement and can poach the odd goal. I know you hate Gareth Barry, but frankly he's been excellent in both season 1 and 3 of the Martinez years...he was not great last year. For me he was our POTY in 2013/14...not far off this one. Barkley being mismanaged? Is this where you tell us all that he should be playing as a DM again?

I didn't say Moyes was tosh mate?
And what could he have done about wigans defence?
Either he becomes harder to beat, sacrificing the sides positive outlook which obtained them the title FA Cup winners OR he buys better defenders. The second wasn't an option.

He comes to us, inherits a quality defence. We finish 5th.
They then fall off a cliff obviously due to age catching them both up.

We did remarkably well at selling players under Martinz, I thought.

Sold Naismith, Anichebe, Fellaini, Duffy and Jelavic for a combined 60 million.

For 5 players, only one of which was really a nailed on starter for us, that's pretty damned good.
Tbf, his silver tongue has had some good uses!
