I didn't say Moyes was tosh mate?
And what could he have done about wigans defence?
Either he becomes harder to beat, sacrificing the sides positive outlook which obtained them the title FA Cup winners OR he buys better defenders. The second wasn't an option.

He comes to us, inherits a quality defence. We finish 5th.
They then fall off a cliff obviously due to age catching them both up.
You hinted at the players not being good enough- hence the where's the top 7 midfield?...
The falling off a cliff bit.. bad management then on Bob's behalf? I can understand if these guys were 70 and had dementia, they were experience defenders asked to ball players, with no structure once a CB and both FB's bomb on. The whole squad has lacked fitness and defensive discipline. Something we had in abundance previously. Buying better defenders WAS a clear option. He's spend 6 mill on Kone, 14mill on Niasse, 13mill on McCarthy, 28mill on Lukaku, 2x right wingers for 4 mill a pop. McGeady was a mistake, but worth a gamble, Cleverley I don't have a problem with on a free.
If his two options are to either be defensive or attacking, sacrificing one for the other, it's clear we have the wrong guy in the hotseat.

Some big calls there mate - only one I'd disagree with is Fellaini - Barkley. Different type of players. Arguably he's replaced Fellaini with Barry (for DM) and Kone (for winning headers up front and holding it up). So very mixed results.

Key one is Pienaar - Cleverley though.

It's obviously difficult to judge a players quality under Martinez as most of them tend to see their form nosedive so some of them might go on to be decent players.

Let's look at a typical Moyes midfield with everyone fit.

Pienaar Cahill Osman Carsley Arteta (you can move the players around, swap Gibson for Carsley, Fellaini for Cahill etc.)

That midfield has balance. Physical players and nimble small players, aerial ability and footballing ability on the deck, set piece ability, goal scoring ability with the ability to cover the defence. Most of those players could captain or did captain the side. The only thing missing is pace really.

Look at Roberto's line up at the beginning of this season

Kone Barkley Cleverley Barry McCarthy (Lennon or Del can swap for Kone)

There is pretty much zero aggression in that midfield (the odd but by McCarthy aside), in terms of flair you have Barkley and that's it. The midfield has zero aerial ability and Barkley aside can barely muster a goal between it. None of them can hit a set piece, the interplay between them is barely existent, they offer zero cover for defence and apart from when Lennon is on also has no pace.

What was a very good footballing team with a dross striker at the top has been replaced by an absolutely woeful midfield with a 30 mill striker at the top.

Martinez has brought in some decent individual talents but he's utterly stripped the team of genuine footballers with the only ones remaining now being Stones and Baines in defence.

The days of Pienaar Osman Arteta Baines making Gary Neville's head spin are long long gone. Our midfield offers nothing to hurt anyone now.

Mate if you have a scroll through my posts on this thread and the Moshiri thread you'll see that it is not Bill's decision, the Board will do as Moshiri demands. Martinez does not feature in Moshiri's vision of the future at Everton. The only remaining issue is timing, be it hours, days or end of season, no-one outside the club knows or has had an indication of his thinking on this subject.

Logically it should be now as there's no footballing reason for him to remain.

The fume needs to be tamed a bit, so here's this again.

You're blaming the demise of Howard and Distin and the injury records of our full backs on the manager?
Come on mate.
The whole defence has been shoddy the last two years, sans Distin and Howard. Not even going to utter the name of that CB he brought in on a free. I'm saying he cannot coach a defence. He could have Maldini/Nesta, and he still wouldn't know what to do with them. Baines has had increasing ankle injuries, fair enough. Remember the horrific amount of hammy injuries we had last year? that he also dumped the previous incumbent's medical team? Let the fitness staff go? Argued with the physios? *Carpet sweep*
