Maybe a little, but not much imo.
We have simply not been good enough and people are losing faith in his ability to make it right, winning a one off match against a team also far below their usual standards would not be something that would undo the past season and a half's decline.
Even a cup win would only shift some of the fans that have turned on him, and certain posters would soon turn them back.
The only thing that will save Martinez is Martinez. He needs to get us winning and climbing the table. Beating Chelsea will be little more than a brief distraction if we get destroyed by Arsenal, then United, then he has the test of beating Watford...
Zero points from those 3 is very conceivable tbh, and that would put us so far down the table it would be a genuine worry.

This post nails the season for me.

A cup win might keep us going for a week, but it's only that. The succession of wasteful performances in Nov/Dec are where he lost his handle on the season, and the reality of all the "it'll come good" sentiment at the time (based on making lots of -often bad- crosses in a game) is now real. It won't, it didn't. Thanks for using wingers Roberto and buying RL. End of reign report? 5/10. Could have and didn't do better (than Moyes).

Why not ? If you look at his tally, then remove him and said tally, replace him with an inferior player, the likes of `Sturridge` or `Coutinio` crap like that, and the stats are we would be lower in the league. His goals as second highest scorer would not of been equalled in my opinion
and therefore we would be sitting lower in the league than we are now

Just my opinion and I hope we win Sat, nothing wrong with healthy debate amongst blues !

So the one goal he got against Bournemouth or West brom. no one else could have scored there?

They will not be on here mate, crying into there drinks that we won.

Come May when we lift the FA Cup they will be celebrating though.

There's an assumption that people who don't believe Martinez is the right man don't want Everton to win.

It's really not true.

Long term I don't want him at the club but come kick off there's only one result I want every week. Everton - win

I just don't think he can achieve that as often as I would like

No the ifs buts and maybes are that we would have a player in his position who would do something.

You simply removed Lukakus goals and replaced them with nothing

Thats right, and thats what the stat is ` without Lukaku`s contribution` we would be 16th.
I agree another player may have scored some but not all. End of the day we are 12th WITH his contribution so any replacement scoring less
would see us lower than 12th .... I find that unacceptable with the 2nd highest scoring player of the season, and a huge doubt as to the managers ability going forward .
