we win the cup and he joins a select group of Everton managers

Yes he would and quite rightly so, there's nothing I want my kids to see more than Everton lifting silverware again.

Davek made a good point earlier stating, are we justified to expect that. The answer to that is both yes and no. Yes, in the sense that historically we have form and still are one of the most successful clubs in the league and no in that, we have been chronically underfunded or mismanaged for quarter of a century. I maintain that Martinez was brought in to deliver that elusive silverware, but let's not forget if Moyes hadn't have chosen to go to United, probably he'd still be with us today, even though he failed. Personally I wouldn't want to return to those days.

When I look at recent statements by Moshiri, I don't think he see's success as just a good run in the cup or even winning it. My guess is he'll set targets higher than that and if they are not met, Martinez will be replaced. Coincidentally, going back to the Moores era and perhaps before, we've always been that type of club. We measure ourselves by the league and God willing if we do lift the FA Cup this year, I think Martinez will more likely be judged by how he is measured by his final league place.

Sorry all only really just recovered from the weekend. What a result - and its nice to actually come away from a game thinking that Roberto hasn't had us off.

Right subs, at right times - i did think when we went 2-0 up "bollocks whats he going to do now".

My position has not changed, i personally think he is too stubborn to change his ways (and rumours of what players are saying back that up), but i will enjoy the result like everyone! Got himself some breathing space with a lot of supporters - he needs to learn from his mistakes (and big holes in his skill set) and try to improve league form now to back the cup games up.

On a serious note: we win the cup and he joins a select group of Everton managers. I said that before we got dumped out of the Europa last year.

Not speaking from any warped sense of entitlement, Bob would get a pass from me if he won the Cup.
Or, in the remaining games, if he shows he can stop making mistakes and (even better) learn from them when he makes them.

He's even more frustrating than Moyes in some ways - at least with Moyes you knew what you were going to get; El Bob is much more exciting - breath-taking sexy football one minute and calamitous mistakes from both team and manager the next, in the same game, that leave you fuming for days. Who said it was like going out with a Latin bird? At least we live in interesting times, the potential of this team is there to see and nights like Saturday remind you of just why you cant help being a Blue. Like the team, I'm all over the shop on whether I want him to stay or be replaced - and I suspect the majority of Evertonians are too. In the meantime, I'm along for the ride, and hoping we lift a piece of silverware before I croak it ;)

The ride is the thing. Couple of mates were saying before Saturday they'd given up on Martinez before adding that they couldn't remember looking forward to matches so much in a long time. Makes me wonder if sometimes our expectations are being set for us.

I know people want to judge him by league position but I have to be honest and say unless we won the league, came close or nearly got relegated I would struggle to remember if we were sixth or thirteenth in any given season.

If I'd laid out a list of personal demands after Moyes it would have been a team that could beat anyone on their day, silverware, and that we proved the school of science model wasn't a myth.
I've even felt like a champion's league slot could be fool's gold until we had a structure and playing style that could attract quality. I think that's his aim.
Ultimately he probably will be judged by the league but for me he deserves more leeway than someone like Mourinho whose sole objective is to put a winning team on the pitch as soon as possible regardless of how it could effect the future.

None of this is to gloss over his flaws but my opinion on them won't really matter cos he's here till season after next I reckon. I think the new investor has seen potential rather than immediate payback. As well as a club with a soul. He'll have loved the atmosphere around the ground and the attitude on the pitch on Saturday. Let's hope for a lot more of both. And let's have fun on the way.

I hope he gets the league form sorted now, as I wouldn't like to go into a semi-final with little to no momentum.

That was a very, very good win, against a quality side, with a bit of momentum behind them of late. The consistency isn't there yet, but the building blocks are in place. He gets another year for me. We're on the cusp of witnessing the greatest Everton side for 30 years. I can just feel it. Keep the faith.

The new owner doesn't look even remotely uncomfortable eh? Not an expert on body language but 'awkward' is probably appropriate.

Further confirms that just like Moyes, Martinez is under zero pressure whilst BK is around. Fortunately it's only a matter of time until Kenwright is gone.

Welcome Mr Moshiri.

Christ.

Or, just maybe mate, it proves that Kenwright sees the bigger picture than the stamp-my-feet-I-want-success-now brigade.

The chairman can see day to day what he is doing behind the scenes. Surely he is far better to judge who should be under pressure or not.

Lukaku saved his bacon. I just hope the dire league performance doesnt result in the likes of lukaku leaving in the summer. We will see

I am not sure if Saturday's performance went a bit against the grain for Martinez but it was certainly what the fan's wanted to see. If we go back to sitting deep ,inviting pressure with zero pressing I think he will quickly come under pressure again. The die has been cast for our remaining performances this year, let's see if he grasps the nettle and sets us up the same way.

I doubt we will see high, consistent pressing game until next season.

If we are looking to take the ball off the opposition in their own half, where it's congested, we need a playmaker who is going to find Barkley and/or Lukaku.

Until then, expect us to only press when the opponents enter our half, which draws the opposition out and allows us to counter attack.

That playmaker, for the second summer in a row, is a vital purchase.
