Average points per season for first three seasons. Harvey 61, Kendal 57, Smith 45, Moyes 53. If Everton get 12 points from the last 9 games Martinez average would be 56.

Not trying to be pedantic mate but do those figures take into account the old two points for a win against the three points for a win now?

Catterick and HKI would be out of sight up near the 60% mark. They are giants of the club.

The Martinez record vis-a-vis other Everton managers pretty much underlines the point I've been making in relation to those who want him gone: "why now, why Martinez?" He's quite obviously being judged by different criteria than other Everton managers, and his overall stats show how ridiculous it is to do so.
What if it's because we've been used to finishing top 7 and above for the majority of the last decade? 7th is nowhere of course, and neither is bottom half but 7th at least gives you hope, and means we'd have won a lot more games than we currently have both this season and last.

Are we not right to expect that standards are maintained or even bettered, especially seeing as Martinez has a squad widely believed to be the best in years?

I imagine if we'd have finished at least in the top half last season, and weren't currently bottom half, that frustrations wouldn't be half of what they are now.

Yes. By scoring more penalties than your opponent.
So you're saying it's all 100% skill and training, not luck?

Goalies sometime have worldclass saves in those, big players miss their penalties. It's a lottery, in the sense that nothing is guaranteed. There's no way to send the keeper the wrong way, there's every chance every penalty will be missed.

Just like Lukaku missed against West Ham.

It is to a degree. But luck is not the only thing in play.

@DualityNSNO answered for me

I think there is plenty of skill involved in accomplishing my slightly pedantic post.

It's not just luck.

The same should be remembered during the game, big players miss chances, big players cock up in defence, goalies play great or muck up. That's sport for you.
