Roberto Martinez discussion

They are still squad players who are important and will obviously be phased out when younger players develop to appropriate levels. Obviously. Like blatantly obviously.

Hold on, Hibbo, Osman, Pienar, Gibson, Barry - still squad players? Barry perhaps for the rest of the season but the others?

Have a look at that thread " who should we get shut of in January" and the names in the poll. Then look at the names I am saying should be released.

Osman is clearly a squad player and will feature when needed this season.

Pienaar would probably still be starting a fair few games but for his injuries.

Gibson is still our best passer of a ball and again, but for injuries, would have played much, much more.

I don't see what's wrong with letting players who clearly bring something to the side see out their contracts.

Should we seriously think now about dropping Barry, Jagielka, Naismith and McCarthy and blooding young players, saying to hell with the result let's start building for the future. Or at least populate the bench with young players - no more Osman, Hibbo, Pienaar,Gibson.

Just a thought, reminiscent of when Howie came and built his side. Reading the reports from back then, Howie was no soft touch, he was a hard man. sentimentality has no place when building a side for the future.

Same Howard who bought in Reid and Gray? The squad has to have a balance. Unfortunately I think the good senior players in the current squad (Jags Baines) don't really have the loud characters to lead the others. Tuis squad could do with a Ferguson or Cahill type (dare I say Rooney) to show them how to win until the likes of Ross and Stones realise they have to do it themselves. Same as Fergie did with Cantona and Keane to guide his youth players.
