Roberto Martinez discussion

You know what? Its over, Im still pretty livid at a lot fo the game because I have literally no idea what the 'system' is supposed to be and I dont think the players do either. We dont play to keep possession because we have no idea how to close down opponents, we dont counter because we constantly slow everything down, we dont play attacking football because nobody fn moves anywhere in the final third.

I am very very interested to see how we do against teams that sit back against us. We werent good today, but Arsenal are a good team. We'd be celebrating for months if we beat Bayern 2-0. I want to see if Martinez has ANY idea how to beat teams that sit back against us. I was never really that worried about the first ten. Im more worried about teams that will try to pick us off as we still look absolutely awful on corners and free kicks.

No.

Howard is a stain on football and I thought Lukaku was pretty poor.

But this is the Martinez thread, overall, I thought he did his job "reasonably well" today.
1st half we were clueless and looked half asleep.
We seem to have lost our identity and the tempo is too slow.
The thing with howard is martinez should have bought a keeper in the summer its really bad management not sorting that

You're joking right? We just went toe to toe with a team who have a chance of becoming the eventual champions, beaten by two defensive errors, neither of which were the manager's fault??

This is true but 2 minutes for Kone? That was a joke, we were crying out for a sub much earlier than that, even at half time, i was worried he was going to wait until the 60th but to wait until 88 was crazy.

Fully agree with you there. Thought that after tonight's abysmal performance that Martinez isn't the man for the job anymore. He always goes on about the 'quality' in the team (Lukaku!?) and can never set his team up to defend properly. Don't know who Everton would get as a new manger, mind.

I'm beginning to feel he's beyond stubborn, more likely he is clueless. We will still be playing the same way 5 years down the road. Time to see him go.

If we are still playing the same way 5 years down the road then we will be mid table in the Championship after getting promotion from L1.

His persistence with Howard is ridiculous.
He started off the season well but the tactics are mind boggling.
We can't defend and hardly create chances and the tempo on the whole is too slow.
He needs to sort it because his blind spot with howard will cost us 2 goals most games

His persistance with poor goalkeepers, a lack of set piece nouce either when we are attacking or defending, and the insistance on 2 defensive mids no matter the opposition, could cost him his job.

I would love to see him succeed as he is a really positive and likeable man, but these constant blind spots are killing us.

We have been useless at set pieces for 18 months now, having been deadly in his 1st season (winning many games by a free kick, Swansea, Villa, West Ham etc). Perhaps the coaching needs refreshing as I struggle to see our game plan, with our first half performances being rubbish for 5 games running now.

We need a change to something.
