Don't get me wrong mate I wasn't slating him for spending 28m on Lukaku, money well spent imo and if we built the side around him he would a score a bucket full.

There's a few who I think would be off in the summer if we didn't show the kind of signs you mention such as top 4, good cup runs. Certainly a real important run coming up now starting with Tuesday which is a great chance to progress to the QF ( I think? ) of the league cup

Tbh mate I think we overpaid. A good striker, but if someone comes with 40 million quid he needs to go as there are cheaper options available.

I certainly want Mister Martinez to be a success at this football club and the time for a performance evaluation is at the end of the season.I have to say i find the love in from his most fanatical of supporters to be charming!Last season the excuse from them was the europa league and the excuse from the same people for us being 11th at this stage of the season is that the fixtures are too hard.The next couple of fixtures will be easier.If there are still problems then they will be saying wait until after the next couple of fixtures and the cycle of excuses continues.Excuses excuses excuses a club of our stature should be able to rise to any challenge so i don't except the fixtures are too hard excuse for our current league position.But it's not politically correct to say this and apparently you are not a proper Evertonian for expressing such thoughts according to some of the assembled wisdom on this thread.

Yeah possibly overpaid by about 5m I reckon mate but it's a case of if you have 28m to spend and a striker like Lukaku is willing to come, you are going to spend it aren't you? Also if he has a good Euros and 40m is put on the table I think he would be off in a flash.
As long as we ain't qualifying for the holy grail ( in their opinion ) CL the players like Lukaku will always have a reason to say "I need to go because I want to be playing CL togger week in week out"

I don't believe it will really matter what happens in the next few games. Win them all he will still be here, lose a few he will still be here.

The only thing that will happen if the second situation occurs is that he will lose the confidence of a large part of the fan base IMO.

The people who have nailed their colours to his mast firmly will never sway and admit they may have been wrong, they will look for excuses. The people who have questioned him will never admit they are wrong either, they will simply say he is doing what he should be doing with this squad.

Some of the attitudes on here amaze me. When the fixture lists came through we all saw how hard the first 10 fixtures were going to be with a newly promoted team followed by Southampton, Spurs, City, Chelsea, Liverpool, United and City. A lot of people were expecting us to be in a relegation battle but instead, with the exception of the last 2 games, we performed very well and have had to play without some key players at times (Baines, Stones, Coleman, Pienaar etc).

Last 2 results weren't great but I expect us to kick on now as the fixture list eases up on us a bit from now until Feb.

This run of games will be crucial. Hopefully we can show some good form and shoot up the league giving Martinez the platform he needs to keep progressing. This really is a golden opportunity. I think the start has been average but no one has pulled away and Chelsea and Liverpool look poor. If we could hit our straps we could position ourselves nicely for the run in.

I think thats 8 times in 13 games this season we have gone behind and been awful 1st half
