Roberto Martinez discussion

Hopefully Villa will give us a wedge of compo for Martinez and we can use that to pry Pardew away from Palace.

Maybe not. Apparently there's a group of Evertonians who dwell in caves and are conspiring to get Sherwood in instead. Bear in mind that it's quite frightening what these people are prepared to do. They'd willingly kill the club to see Martinez out, so I've heard.

Isn't a counter attacking goal a well worked goal. Our goals against Southampton were picture perfect. As was our trio against west brom. Our third against Chelsea was brilliant too. Stones,Lennon, Barkley, Naismith goal
Some people have selective memory's, it serves them well in the world of fantasy they live in.

In the real world we have a manager like the team has the potential to achieve things, a fair few ifs and buts but I for one am happy to stick by him

At this moment in time I'll take dropping an inept goalkeeper and to stop bottling it with team selection and game style.
Drop the keeper yes but can't say he bottled it against Arsenal! Attacking subs there too! Man U was terrible but yesterday if not for Howard I feel we'd have got something against the best Arsenal team since they were winning titles imo

I've said where we would be on the table with a top class keeper in the Howard thread so won't go over that again in here.
I have my doubts about Martinez long term. Fortunately for him we had, what now appears anyway, a fluke season that is the only reason really that supporters are prepared to give him time.

Not for nothing but I don't really judge him by these first ten. I want to see if he has any idea how to play against teams that don't come at them. That's where I'm judging him.

Let's vault this for a Christmas time discussion. My belief is we will be hovering in the 7-11 range of nothingness after another Howard clanger to discuss.

When I said a few weeks ago after the Swansea game I would of preferred that we brought in Billic in the summer of 2013 I got a lot of stick. My view is that he would of been a better fit at Everton than Martinez. We are a huge club with a huge fan base, we have a support that is only rivalled by that of Liverpool, United and Arsenal. We took 8000 to France year, our lovable neighbours across the park took around 2000 or less to France this year. Martinez has never managed a club like Everton before with passionate supporters, like Billic has. In my opinion he still just doesn't get it playing nice football and creating a few chances but ultimately losing at Arsenal is not an achievement at Everton. Billic doesn't take any nonsense or excuses from his players, he gives his players to confidence to beat anybody, that's why he's beaten Arsenal, Liverpool and City away in his first season plus Chelsea at home. Even some of the biggest Martinez fans on here have say that's impressive. My view is that Martinez simply isn't a manager suited to managing a huge club like Everton, we care more about results that possession stats or fancy football.

Billic is a rat, learn dat der history.

the age of our squad is biggest positive for me, am a bit disappointed we arent doing slightly better...but we have 4/5 key young players who can keep getting better

Bilic also went out int he Europa League and his team conceded 4 against Bournemouth. He's done very well against the big teams and his a very good squad (payet :() but let's give him a bit more than a season - same with Koeman

Sorry but that simply isn't true. Think a lot of the agony in here is due to unrealistic expectations based on this kind of wishful thinking. We have great away support and get about 37,000 to home games. We're a VERY MINOR brand abroad. And we're fairly broke. We've been this way for well over 2 decades. No one could take over Everton and win the league in three seasons. Not sure it's a realistic goal in the next 10 years to be fair.
