Roberto Martinez discussion

Nonsense.

Would you rather have a manager who went out into the media and threw his players under the bus like some of other egotistical bellends?

Martinez wont do that to a player, and it's a strength not a weakness. What he does behind the scenes appears different to me. He's had issues with Distin and Mirallas and dealt with it. That's the way it needs to be done.

No, I'd rather have a manager who kept his gob shut, then quietly made the correct selection call ahead of the next game when the teamsheet was released.

Reporters are asking him to admit the GK situation at the club is a problem; rightly he tells them that's not the way Everton do things while he is in charge of the dressing room. 100% correct too. And he hasn't given any assurances to TH that he's unassailable in his position - the reverse is true, in fact.

People want a scapegoat and RM is determined to resist that type of mob mentality. It's a principled position that he takes up and one that creates a corp spirit in the first team squad.

Erm...

Asked if Howard would lose his starting berth, the Spaniard replied: "No, that's very clear."

What?

Where's the contradiction?

He's talking about this week's game.

You just said he "hasn't given any assurances to Tim Howard that he's unassailable in his position."

Yet we have a situation where a 'keeper has a man of the match winning performance, the manager is asked a direct question as to whether that would cause a selection issue, and instead of saying "there's competition for every place at Everton" or the usual fluff he comes out with, he instead chose to utterly shat on Joel after a fantastic performance by basically saying, "hey, no matter what you do, screw you cup keeper."

He has never once allowed somebody who steps in for an injury/cup game retain that place.

I heard a rumour that he gets kick backs from certain players on the app fees they get from playing, just what I heard.

Eh?! I think you'll find he's said exactly that today about the GK's jersey.

Some people didnt want a manager who just got a team relegated at the expense of a cup run for his personal collection. Eat sleep trophy-relegation then do one.

I'm sorry, but that is complete and utter nonsense. During my little tour of the DW Stadium(see thread 'Wigan' in World Football Forum) it was obvious how proud Wigan were of winning the FA Cup for the town of Wigan, and how grateful they were for Martinez efforts to keep them in the Premier League against overwhelming odds, both financial and player quality. At Wigan they still have nothing but good words about Martinez(and Dave Whelan, incidentally) and it is ridiculous to suggest that he concentrated on winning the cup just for his own personal cv.

I heard he auctions a starting place on eBay every week, and most weeks Naismiths Mrs puts in a last minute winning bid so that Steven gets a game........

How many FA cups did Wigan win before Martinez?
