Roberto Martinez discussion

I'm really enjoying watching us at times this season, although we are not perfect.

One of the main reasons for my enjoyment is young Gerard, I don't think he would be here without Martinez and so for that reason, I'm back on the gravy train.

Maybe I'm fickle but there was no excuse for how bad we were last season, so nice to see he has had the balls to stick by his guns and turn it around. So far so good. COYB.

...think you mean 'bandwagon'.

I think his transfer record is excellent if looked at in a different way:

Short term signings 4hits / 4 misses:

Traore LOAN = miss
Atsu LOAN = miss
Alcaraz FREE= miss
McGeady (£1mil?) = miss
Deulofeu LOAN = hit
Lennon LOAN = hit
Barry LOAN = hit
Lukaku LOAN = hit

Longer term signings 9hits / 2 misses
Deulofeu (£4.2mil) = hit
Barry (Free) = hit
Kone (£5mil) = Pending
Lukaku £28mil)= hit
McCarthy (Free)= hit
Barry (Free)=hit
Cleverley (Free)=hit
Besic (£2.5 rising to £4mil)= hit
Galloway (£500k rising to £4mil)= hit
Lennon (£4.5mil) = miss
Mori (£9.5mil)= hit
Robles (unknown)= miss

I think if he has money in his pocket and is looking for a signing to add to the team longer term he usually gets it right. Most of his misses have been speculative punts.

For this reason i think if given sizeable cash he would do well with it and focus on top quality.

It would have been nice to get McCarthy on a free instead of paying the 13m we did for him ;)

I think you're being harsh there in regards Lennon as a permanent deal. It's only been a few months really and he's had Del, Kone and even Naismith (to an extent) do very well and keep Lennon away from the team.
Also Martinez is building a squad and Lennon is part of that squad. If someone gets injured, Lennon can come in and replace them with minimum fuss. He's a much better and more capable option than McGeady.

I think we look good under Martinez at current, I like his signings on the whole, mostly players have performed around their value, which has both improved us and helped improve the squads age, and therefore the potential of the squad.

I like (when its going well) the style of play at last, found it very boring first few years, but has definitely taken a big step forwards in the entertainment stakes and has left us with a squad capable of entertaining, progressing and most importantly winning.

Its also capable of frustrating, boring and losing, but there are signs that the better Everton play may be heading to us more and more frequently as potential quality becomes actual quality.

Of course playing dross teams in a row is a nice springboard to up confidence and allow us to improve our passing flow, and good results can make even the most cynical a little impressed, but we also did alright against the massive run of big teams at the start too.

If we keep winning against those team that will finish below us, we will soon find the list of teams that will finish below us increasing.

Good times
