Roberto Martinez discussion

He (Martinez) just doesn't do enough for me.

There are players (estimated, realistic sale values in brackets) such as Stones (40m), Baines (15m), Coleman (15m), McCarthy (25m), Barkley (40m), Deulofeu (15m), Lukaku (50m) in his squad yet we are pathetic at home and linger just above the bottom half of the table, still.

With the squad he has, and the options he had in the summer (could have got rid of Naismith before waiting, then rejecting a last-minute offer, McGeady could have gone too, etc) we should be even stronger and have more strength in depth.

I genuinely feel like his defensive naivity will always let us down and we'll always concede too many goals to achieve anything.

Most other managers, in my opinion, with this squad, would have us much higher and performing better. I don't could pathetic own-half five-yard sideways passes as a positive thing.

I think he doesn't have it in him to motivate the players, either. Fourth was there for the taking two years ago, then he let it slip in a series of fixtures we ought to have secured it in. Now the players start games great, get in with him at half time, and come out looking a shadow of the team that started the game.

Something is wrong. We should be miles higher up the league and have at least 10/12 more points than we do have.

great to see a couple of posters with plenty of conviction in their opposing opinions battling it out here

dunno what way this is gonna go, can't call it at all

but like I say it's great to see, and very, very refreshing

You don't know what way it's gonna go???? Behave yourself, I'm gonna win.

Then again, I'm drunk, so if I don't win, then I'll just pretend it never happened.

yeah we can tell you're drunk, but you're doing very well despite that,

gotta watch out for Orly though, that kid's sharp as a tack

best of luck to both X

Well, which is it - has Roberto been fielding odd line ups or nearly full strength teams in the League Cup? And what should he do now?

He could play his strongest teams in the Premier League games so we finish high up the league - and avoid going bottom 5 - and field an odd line up twice against City.

Or he could play a strong team against an inconsistent City in the hope of taking Everton to a cup final at Wembley. Of course, our league form may suffer in the attempt.

I'm sure Roberto would like your advice.

I literally have no idea what you are talking about. Of course we should play our best team in the cup games - but that's no reason not to play our strongest team in the league games too. Things need mixing up a bit anyway, so I'm sure Mirallas, Jags, McCarthy and a few others will come back in anyway.

Players eligible for PFA Young player of the Year:
Stones - wanted by Martinez
Galloway - signed by Martinez
Deulofeu - signed by Martinez
Barkley
Lukaku - signed by Martinez

Quality players
Baines
Jagielka
Coleman
McCarthy - signed by Martinez
Cleverley - signed by Martinez
Mori - Signed by Martinez

Past those bunch theres a lot of squad players below that level. Also look at the injuries weve had to the above....

Since he's joined he's strengthened several areas of the team and needs to strengthen the rest...GK/CM/LW especially look really poor and no backup for RB/CF positions...

Hes done very well strengthening with the money he has had.

How they've brought in a ringer to take the corners because how boss would they feel about defending corners when the ball never passes the first man

Good point actually - how do we practice defending good corners when we are only capable of taking awful ones?
