Here our new signing, Shani Tarashaj, speaks on how Martinez's reputation for developing young players convinced the U-21 Swiss international to sign for Everton over other interested teams, namely Inter and Juventus.
I think an undervalued ability of Martinez is the pull and influence he has in the transfer market. With the insane TV money making every other PL club a financial juggernaut, to have a manager that has the ability to secure signings through personality and persuasion is a massive bonus, since the playing field has been very much leveled in terms of wages that can be offered.
I have issues with how he approaches the on-field aspect of the game, though I am of the opinion that this season has shown a marked improvement over last in terms of performance(if not yet results) and being 90 minutes from Wembley should never be sneezed at. But it is off the field where he has truly shined, and it is that off-field know-how and instinct that is much more difficult to learn and cultivate than on-field tactical nuance. The John Stones transfer battle was a massive victory for Roberto and the club as a whole, and the captures of Lukaku and Deulofeu would more than likely not have happened under a different manager.
Much has been made of the upcoming summer, with fearful murmurs of losing Lukaku and Stones in one window being heard from Evertonians. Under this manager, however, I have full faith that he can keep a hold of the talented squad he has constructed, and if we do lose players, it will be on our terms, as this manager has shown he will not be bullied in the transfer market. It's a heck of a squad he's built, and I have every confidence we will finish the summer stronger than we started it, and that confidence is solely down to the manager.
