Roberto Martinez discussion

Very interesting that in the last three games (and as such, the upturn in form) Martinez has made some excellent managerial decisions.

Gone is the ridiculous, gung-ho mayhem of the Stoke and Leicester defeats.

He brings on players like Osman and is using others like Lennon and Besic - more control, perhaps less flair, but a firmer grip on proceedings.

It takes a big man to admit that he has made mistakes, and clearly lots of them. As I said before Spurs, the 3-4 loss at home was the straw that broke the camel's back - he's changed our style of play and we've seen an upturn in performances and results.

Well played Martinez for adjusting your principles, and well done to the sensible heads like me and @ianefc in being consistent with our suggestions (which seem to have been heeded).

Good to have you on board the Roberto bandwagon mate. As you said, he's a manager that can adapt and develop and become the complete manager.

Well done for reappraising your view.

I have been consistent David.

If he continued down that path to ruin, we would have failed.

Having adjusted sensibly and not sticking to the 'Martinez's Mates' clique that he was maintaining in the dressing room, we have improved.

I really admire what you've done personally. The temptation, when you've taken a long held position against the manager, is to be too stubborn to see sense, but you've held up your hands and said you were wrong.

*virtual positive rep*

Not at all - I've always seen his work as a batch of results set against the quality he has had available to him.

Since he's adjusted the style of play (which you felt he didn't need to), we've seen an up-turn in results. The ultimate vindication of taking a balanced view.

Well done me.

It's okay mate, you got chinned. Don't go rowing back to the other side now for the sake of your ego.

You're always just a set of quotes away from the Lukaku vault of the year sir.

I've been consistent and proved correctomundo, you could only dream of such a thing with regard to our number one goalscorer.

Have a look at my excellent thread from last season

Where Martinez avoided the pitfalls of the 'don't change a thing Marty xxx' crowd, made changes suggested by seasoned football watchers like me and @ianefc and the results improved.

Dont sell yourself short here. You're 180 degree turn on the managerial issue has been a courageous change of heart. You are an example to others who've opposed Roberto how to gracefully admit that you were completely wrong. Some people would see that as a climb down of epic proprtions. Not a a bit of it. It demonstrates the character you have, and I for one give maximum credit for it.

If enough footballs bounce off your shins, some are bound to go into the net. Lukaku is just Andy Johnson lite and every one can see it. Anyway mate, welcome aboard.

I'm Mr Consistent, David; here's my work from last year

Make Changes, Get Results.

Feeling utterly vindicated here, it's wonderful.

Aye, we can see how readily you embrace whatever the prevailing feeling happens to be at the time. Some would call that fickle and shortsighted, but not me.

Good, as a sensible person would see it as taking a macro-orientated, balanced view.

I'm calling the police!

Good post. Martinez has certainly gone up in my estimation recently having shown he is man enough to change things when he has been wrong. It is also satisfying to know that there are some on here with enough knowledge and wisdom of football to have seen his errors before he did, and were not afraid to speak out. If everyone had as balanced a view as you this thread would not have 1960 pages
