Roberto Martinez discussion

Kone and Howard are proper turd, if he continues to play both of these till May I want him sacked.

Yep, selections over the next few weeks will tell us a lot. The win against City was due in a large part to Besic and Robles and perhaps the absence of Kone.

Now their inclusion suggests that either Martinez played second string players in what was our biggest game of the season or that he's been deliberately selecting what he considers to be inferior players in the league. The third option is that after reviewing recent under performance he's altered what he considers to be his best 11 to include Besic and Robles and omit Kone.

If in the next few weeks though we see McCarthy, Howard and Kone all returned straight to the first team then this suggests to me that lessons haven't been learned (and won't in the long run) and that all that's happened in essence is that for the City first leg Martinez inadvertently out out our strongest 11 but just didn't realise it.

If Martinez has learnt the lessons of the past 18 months we can have a great season from here. If we haven't it will be reflected in the lineups over the next few weeks.

Howard is coming straight back, the Echo just quoted Martinez saying he values Howard's experience over his form.

I wouldn't play our full strength line up Wednesday, I'd save something different for the cup game and wouldn't show all our cards this week.

I'd play our second choice wide players Mirallas and Lennon along with Kone up top.

I'd keep Delefeou and Lukaku back for what is now a huge game and probably our best chance for 20+ years to win a cup.

The issue is that Robles is also poor. We just don't have a quality keeper in our squad. And that's unlikely to change until the summer. Using the keeper as some kind of litmus test is stupid: I can tell you now, we'll be working with one of two sub-par keepers for the rest of the season.

But he isn't.

Curiously though, it is not the British love of a bruising challenge which attracted Besic to the Premier League, but a coach who always promotes the silkier side of the game.
“It’s not why I wanted to come to England,” added Besic. “That was because of Roberto Martinez. I wanted to come to Roberto Martinez because I know that I would grow in his side. He is a really good coach.

“I first heard from him at the World Cup in 2014 and I didn’t know too much about English football then, because I was playing in Germany, so it was all because of Roberto Martinez.”
Besic explains that there is rarely a day when he doesn’t pick up a new lesson from the Spaniard. And after enjoying an outstanding 90-minutes alongside the Premier League’s longest serving midfield general last Wednesday, he is picking up,tips from his teammates.

“You can learn a lot of things off Gareth (Barry),” he added. “His positional play, or his passing. He always tries to pass it simple and that’s the most difficult thing sometimes, to play the simple pass, I can learn a lot from Gareth Barry.
“I wasn’t trying too hard when I first came. That was just my style of playing. Sometimes I was everywhere on the pitch but that’s why I came here to work with the gaffer because I know that he will teach me things that other coaches will not do. Nearly every day he explains something to me, like my positional play.
“Now you can say that I run a lot but it’s important when I run. Not like before when I just ran but didn’t know where to run.”

Robles may not be the full time solution we need in that position, but he's vastly superior to Howard at this point in time

It's a no brainer. Drop Howard, keep Robles in and then get a proper first choice keeper in over the summer

Is right Mo, play the utter fraud at his own game.

Based on what? The 7 or so games he's played.

If it was a youngster or a new signing being judged after so few games you'd be laughed at so why not this?

Even more so with a keeper, a position that is almost impossible to come straight into every so often and be commanding and be on top form.

Abridged version: "I'm here cos Roberto is here...I go if Roberto goes".

I don't think he's been played enough yet to know that he's not the full time solution

Drop Howard, keep Robles in and decide at end of season whether or not to get another keeper in.
