Roberto Martinez discussion

Is it really that common? Courtois (Cech), Mignolet (Reina), Adrian (Jaaskeleinen), Butland (Begovic), Hart (Given), Robinson (Martyn), Cech (Cudicini), Handonovic (Cesar)... I don't think it's unusual for a manager to replace an ageing goalkeeper with a younger, less experienced backup when the time is right.

You'd think Howard was some Buffon or van der Sar-esque serial winner the way Martinez goes on.

I dont think he makes him out to be anything of the sort really. He is just super positive in general. I don´t pay much mind to what managers say to the media. It´s only the odd time you can tell they want to actually say something rather than just waffling.

And yes, theres definitely examples of managers making that call, but for me at least I think sticking with experience would be the common decision in my 30yrs watching the game, as much as I dont like it in this instance.

...it's not helped by malcontents trying to launch counter revolutions to re-impose their, old outmoded system.
which system is that? Are you polarising again? Are you suggesting that everyone displeased with our amount of wins this season wants Moyes back?

Only asking as it'd be nice for everyone on both sides of the camp and everyone inbetween to know exactly what they're dealing with? When it comes to your ramblings.

You're like a broken record from the back catalogue of The Backstreet Boys.

Look, it's no secret that Roberto has broken the mould that encased this club for years. He's got us going back to a type of football we were synonymous with in a bygone era. Some appear to be confused over that and believe that being direct for the majority of time is a virtue at Everton when in reality it's a vice. I dont know where you fit on the spectrum, but - to use your 'polarising' analogy - you appear to me, from what sort of replacement you've suggested in the past, to err toward the 'direct' end of it rather than the school of science end of it.

First of all fair play for replying...Secondly I've hardly suggested anyone to replace him and I'm almost certain you won't find a post saying that (insert here) should take his place, In fact I'm not 100% I want him gone, I was speaking to a mate who supports City the other day about the 2nd leg and I said.....

'I'm not worried about scoring as NO ONE scores more than us'

That's right, hardly anyone does. We need to be better at the back, that's where the questions on Martinez come in for me, it's not as easy as saying 'can he manage a defence?' Simply focusing on getting us to defend better (as with attacking) is a lot easier than sorting a defence whilst still getting us to go forward the way we do.

Has he made his job easier for himself by negating the defence
and concentrating on us going forward so well?

I don't know, what I do know is that he has built a great squad, I am 100% desperate for his hard work in that department to not go to waste. Mid table finishes, or even lower mid table finishes will not aid his/our aims.

But for you to talk about us being 'the entertainers' yet only ever focusing on the number in the Loss colum, whilst saying everyone and anyone who is un-happy with Martinez wants Hoofball from Moyes is a pretty poor do. IMHO.

You suggested Tony Pulis would be a good replacement:

Fair enough. Thats your opinion...

Who would you get in mate?

Pulis?

ianefc

Yeah I don't see why not, it would be the biggest job of his career and the best squad he has had to work with, pound for pound he was the league best manager last season, of course the football snobs would prefer what we have been served up this season simply because of number like 63% and 59%

....

Ralphie Boy

So, who is to go and replace with who?

ianefc

Martinez with Pulis

As I said: the 'direct' end of the spectrum....
