Roberto Martinez discussion

But you can see even earlier in the season that the back four look more settled with Robles behind them.

Overall TH has been one of Everton's better GKs. A very good shot stopper in his prime. However, he's a liability now and he's too set in his ways to adapt to a more demanding keepers role of commanding his area.

...like the man that picks him, no matter what it seems, seemingly without question nor consideration of form? Like the man who often (and in career pattern) fails/has failed to hone his sides defensively despite it being a problem SO vast that a side he managed was relegated?

Imagine being THAT set in your ways eh & learning little from mistakes made and...

Oh.

Being set in your ways is often a BAD thing Dave, yes?

He picks him as he is more experienced, and has mentioned reasons why he gets picked even when in poor form.

It´s not being set in your ways. It is simply making a choice that a lot of people disagree with. Including me.

I´ve said it before, he is not the first and wont be the last manager in football to stick with his most experienced goalkeeper even when playing badly. I want a new keeper and would like to see Robles given a chance but I really don´t think this decision is the big "outrage" that so many people are making it out to be.

People gotta go to the extreme though, otherwise the fume is less fun eh?

That's one of my main issues with him as a manager. The keeper situ is merely a stick now isn't it, it's easy, because, simply, he's not gonna alter his logic on it. Frankly though - experience over form doesn't cut it for me ATM because experience has cost a LOT of points/goals.

*watch this clean sheet & 0-3 away win tonight. Whoooosh.

Doesnt cut it for me either, but I wont be fuming over it as, like I said, its pretty common that managers make that choice especially when it comes to the choice of keeper.

I would say that a lack of nous in the team in general has cost us those points, rather than it directly being our poorly performing keeper.

I would like to think that with Jags back, he might finally drop Howard if this poor form continues as he has the captains experience there to guide the defence.

and how does one get experience?

by experiencing things riddick

i fail to see the point of your question, if you read my post properly
Dammit! I read it twice and, apparently, both times missed the gist

le fail

theres a saying I heard last week when in Punta Cana, something to the effect of 'I aint dying over that hill'. As in, pick your battles. Why Martinez feels Howard is the hill he is choosing to hang himself over is really such a curiosity.

He isn't really hanging himself though which is hugely ironic. If we won the league cup this season, it would be with robles, and howard could gracefully leave in the summer.

Many would say succesful season and he didn't have to go against his principle of starting the experienced keeper.

I think it's quite funny listening to him come up with new explanations for why being old is a more important attribute than being talented or in any sort of form when it comes to goalkeepers.

It's just blind loyalty from Martinez to Howard and from some of our fans to Martinez.

this is just silly.

obviously he hasnt said he picks him because he is older.

it could be blind loyalty from Martinez, but you dont know that Ian, and the reason he has given....as I have said....is a very common reason from many many managers...and especially when it comes to the keeper.

On my part I don´t think it is blind loyalty to the manager to point out the silliness of outrage over a manager doing what many managers do when picking their keeper when game time comes.

you didnt stay in Tortuga Bay whilst in Punta Cana by any chance?

I think he just might not see the situation as gravely as some fans see it basically.

Except we should be doing a LOT better in the league ESPECIALLY with two of the traditional 'top 4' probably not going to make it in their current state..
