Roberto Martinez discussion

Martinez set us out brilliantly tonight. We rode our luck, but then we didn't have any of our own going forward, either.

Given the personnel we had at our disposal, and the fixture traffic jam we find ourselves in, I think he pitched it perfectly.

Ok saying we offered literally nothing going forward is a terrible exaggeration. There was the Osman chance two of Rom's shots blocked in the six yard box one where a Deulofeu cross was going for a tap in to Rom but for a last ditch slide by a City defender.

You always say you look at things fairly but tonight it's been a total neglect of all that was good about the performance and exaggerating all that should've been better.
In almost any game of football played between 2 teams in the same league both teams will have chances. That doesn't mean much that you can recall them in 3 instances and talk about a cross that should have been. As I said earlier that was the first clean sheet they have kept at home since August.

Great defensive display.

What I liked most was the lines were cleared when that was the best option, no unnecessary risks taken.

I love Stones but I do think he is overdoing it now when carrying the ball out of defence,....he holds on to it for too long and his passing in the final third isn't good enough to play the forwards in anyway IMO.

Ok keep ignoring the obvious. Have fun looking through those poo covered glasses.

I mentioned earlier. It may not be the case that Martinez is 'Defensively Clueless' it may and now appears to be that he simply is unable to find the balance. Very much all or nothing. Tonight was nothing, in terms of going forward but all in terms of going back....Stoke was all in terms of going forward but nothing going back. We have the leagues top scorer and were sat in 11th place just 1 off 13th. With this squad and this first team.

Well I thought it was equal going forward 1st half mate and 2nd half they put us under the cosh and we just couldn't get going. I've watched us waste half a bloody season think we are an under 6 side who don't need to worry about discipline and defensive stability so the last few games have been sound as far as I'm concerned.

He's a soft sod K sometimes and could do with someone pulling him aside and telling him to cut out the soft arse play. He just needs to tone it down a bit as we all know he's class and there's no shame in just webbing the ball away once in a while

From your POV is their now not a worry that we can't do both in the same game?
