Roberto Martinez discussion

I mentioned earlier. It may not be the case that Martinez is 'Defensively Clueless' it may and now appears to be that he simply is unable to find the balance. Very much all or nothing. Tonight was nothing, in terms of going forward but all in terms of going back....Stoke was all in terms of going forward but nothing going back. We have the leagues top scorer and were sat in 11th place just 1 off 13th. With this squad and this first team.

We quite clearly at least matched them in the first half. We're not going to do that over a full 90 away from home.

But of course, the fact we were very good in the first half gets completely forgotten and called "nothing".

I think that's called "exaggerating to make a point".

agree, I suspect lennon and kone/mirrallas will start against Chelsea

its not like he WANTS to start Osman, its just that he's running out of options as we don't have masses of squad options...
Use the full squad in these PL games and get the best XI out on the pitch for the LC 2nd leg. That has to be the priority.

Exactly the same for me, overall it has improved ( since Spurs ) and there's a better shape and balance to the side.

He's wrecked my head Martinez for over a year but at least the last couple of games he's shown a bit of tactical awareness and I still think we look like we've got a goal in us.

Go to Chelsea on Saturday and do the sake as tonight and I can see us going one better and getting the win.

In all honesty i didn't think we'd conceed tonight, normally i'm on the edge of my seat but it seemed very comfortable and well organised at the back.

I said the other week, with Martinez in charge i fear no team, but at the same time fear conceeding a shed load and it wrecks my head. We could easily beat Chelsea and City, get a wembley date in the calendar and then get beat by Villa. Its a pain the backside

To be fair mate the second half of games have cost us a lot of points; thasts where the balance has been lost, seem unable to adapt to the oppositions changes, i mean at Norwich we should have been 5 up easily.

I was very very critical of him last year, but they have changed, gone is the boring pointless passing but in contrast its left us open at he back against the lesser teams and we have been punished at home for it.

But overall it has improved
Has it? Last season we averaged 6 wins in 19 this season we have averaged 6 wins in 21. How is that better? The forum overlord said 'minimum 60 points' well we have gained 28 from opening 63 avaliable we now need 32 from next 51. That's a big big ask IMHO.

I would probably take that end scenario mate of you can promise we will be playing Stoke in the final ;)

Surely people don't think The whole season should be judged on tonight? I hope I'm right in assuming that. Or after one good result does all that goes before it not count?

Wake up FFS....6 (six) wins in 21 league games isn't good enough, I can't be the only one who thinks that? He has to improve? Surely?

Laughed at that tbh

IMO yes, because the approach and gameplay has done a complete 180 from least season. Is it annoying that we are getting far to many draws than wins, yes of course it is.

Now i'm not one of the "build a statue" brigade, i go off what i'm witnessing on the pitch and it has improved. Last year (2014) i wanted him out after that Christmas period, it was some of the worst football and tactical approach i ahve witnessed since Walker; I said i'd give gim to christmas just gone.

I am more confident with the fact that we could put a 5/6/7 game winning streak together this season than i was last
