Roberto Martinez discussion

I was expecting a bad run at some time, but by "bad run" I meant narrow losses, some boring draws etc. But no one tell me conceding 3 goals (and more) per game is normal and this is only a bad patch. I've never seen a good team (which we are) doing something like that on regular basis.

Christ, even Newcastle and QPR have a better defence than us.

I don't really buy this rumour going around that Martinez doesn't give the players a bit of the hair dryer treatment
treatment every once in a while. I think he is equally prepared to give a bollocking as he is to put an arm around a player's shoulder. Yeah he's a nice guy to the media because they're not the ones making us ship goals. Also for all the positive comments he made yesterday after the match he looked like he was fuming underneath it all.

honeymoon period definately over a bad result saturday and the unrest will start, i just dont understand how weve become so poor recently , it started preseason with so many defensive errors and it just seems to of continued. he needs to get a settled defence which includes john stones, i can accept a young player making mistakes but not seasoned professionals constantly messing up. his tinkering versus crystal palace has put himself under pressure.

It's unquestionable that we've been poor so far this season.

But Martinez has earnt the right to be trusted to get us out of this slump and I feel we should trust him and he'll come good by May

I've got no fixed view whether R M is a good manager for this club or not. I'll wait till the end of January before I have a firm opinion. In the meantime, I'm happy that he's managed to keep expectations high.

mine slumped totally the last 2 games, he left me baffled with his tinkering about and resting players after 5 league games, i expected a weakened side last night but i didnt expect the team he put out sunday.

There is no doubt he is a nice guy but is he strong enough that's my worry.
He has earned time after last season but he is worrying me this season with his failure to sort the defence and his transfer market dealings and lack of them.
Giving hibbert 2 years was laughable I don't get that at all.
The sign of a good manager is pulling us through when the going gets tough.
I am surprised how things have slid since last season

Haha...it was always going to be a tough fixture. On the road, 3rd game in 6 days, Derby on Saturday...the manager didn't have a lot of choices.

Yes he did, he could have prioritised the league cup over a game in a competition we have no chance of winning. Even if we win on Saturday, we only get the three points that we threw away last Sunday. Everyone would be buzzing but if so its true we care more about beating Liverpool than winning something. We've effectively traded three points and the league cup for a shot at Liverpool with a fresh team.

A real savvy manager would have beaten palace and swansea with the first team then realised its Anfield with Atkinson. We could take Messi and Ronaldo and still the ref would find a way for them to prevail. Play the kids there take a beating and move on. As it is we've just set our first team up to be beaten by a sjocking Liverpool side.

I think there was nothing much wrong with the team he put out on Sunday.

Palace couldn't get a kick and they should have been two or three down before our senior players committed hari kari.

The one crumb of comfort I am seeing is that there is no great systemic failure as such, just players dropping massive clangers and making unforced errors, IMO.

If those guys give their heads a shake we won't be long moving through the gears and up the table.

I believe we can and will win at the Pit come Saturday and all will be well in our world again....;)
