Roberto Martinez discussion

The Derby is a massive fixture for him. If we win (Lol) it could lift us and make us back on track, lose and we'll be in a real mess and he will be under big pressure to sort that out quick.

So, a draw nailed on IMO.

He needs to get ruthless does Martinez.

- the 14 goals we've conceded in those 6 games is our worst 6-game start since 15 in 1994/95
- whereas the 15 we've scored is our best 6-game total since we managed the same amount in 1978/79

He needs to be kicking certain players into touch

We have the players, they just aren't performing to desired levels. Error prone at the moment, I'm hoping we have got the whole seasons mistakes out of the way already and we are going to storm the rest of the season only conceding 3 more goals.

I'll put down the glue.

Whilst he's probably at fault for selecting particular players, his not his fault that seasoned professionals are making absolutely horrific mistakes on a consistent basis. None of us seen the likes of Jagielka and Distin completely dropping off the way they have, both a shadow of their former selves.

A real savvy manager would have beaten palace and swansea with the first team then realised its Anfield with Atkinson. We could take Messi and Ronaldo and still the ref would find a way for them to prevail. Play the kids there take a beating and move on. As it is we've just set our first team up to be beaten by a sjocking Liverpool side.

No offence mate but this post is utter bobbins.

You're right about the first bit, losing to bottom of the league Palace is not good enough. But then you go on to say that Martinez should "play the kids" at Anfield. Ridiculous. If he did that he'd be sacked - he'll want to get a result at Anfield on Saturday, make no mistake about that.

As an outsider, I like Martinez but I'm not convinced he can build defences. His teams have always looked suspect at the back and he seems to have dismantled Moyes solid back line with his own ideas.

Wish people stop fooling yourselfs and stop underestimate yesterday's loss. Maybe it is a meaningless cup in your eyes, but I'm sure another 3 shipped goals will affect players minds. Their confidence and belief must be shot and that's my biggest fear. Football is not just about right tactics so I'm worried our first eleven will be able to pretend nothing is happening and will play much better on Saturday.

It is a Martinez's biggest test in his whole carreer. And it took him only 6 weeks to end up in this mess. Bloody hell, I'm depressed.

Coleman starts, Distin is dropped. Stone is at CB. First major change i'd make.
Secondly, Barry stays in DM, no more moving up, no helping pile pressure on, no, his job is the "Carsley" role.
Third, don't over commit to attacks, too many players are up there like we're desperate to score. Calm and the goals will happen, whilst being responsible at the back
Lastly, Hibbert, Distin, Osman don't get near the team. The last thing we need is tired legs and mistakes being made.

Next game, take the calm approach instead of everyone bombing forward looking for a goal, let's be responsible and play players in their right position.

Also, isn't it a weird season when we're second top scorers but conceded the most, and yet Liverpool are letting goals in everywhere, another 2 last night. United are letting goals in.

It's like managers had a meeting in the summer and decided we must all attack

And also we were always saying that he is a young manager and he's able to learn a lot from the game. That Palace game was a wake up call for me that maybe he isn't.

I'm not mad and I don't think it is a knee-jerk reaction (yesterdays was different). I'm just worried :(

Moyes did that once and got lambasted for it

You have to play the strongest team in the Derby. It's the one fixture of the year where the fan base will scalp you if you don't

It can also be a turning point if we get a good result, give the lads confidence and lift the fans. They can't defend either in fairness so it should make for a very nervy game.

Your right to be worried the problems are not being managed.
The biggest worry for me though is after the palace game there should have been a response regardless of team selection and the effort and desire was not there.
There is no excuse for lack of desire and the sloppiness is it the manager who is letting them get away with it or are the players not bothered about the cup game
