Roberto Martinez discussion

Yes he did, he could have prioritised the league cup over a game in a competition we have no chance of winning. Even if we win on Saturday, we only get the three points that we threw away last Sunday. Everyone would be buzzing but if so its true we care more about beating Liverpool than winning something. We've effectively traded three points and the league cup for a shot at Liverpool with a fresh team.

A real savvy manager would have beaten palace and swansea with the first team then realised its Anfield with Atkinson. We could take Messi and Ronaldo and still the ref would find a way for them to prevail. Play the kids there take a beating and move on. As it is we've just set our first team up to be beaten by a sjocking Liverpool side.

You must be ****ing joking. Just saying.

I was expecting these kind of displays last season not this season. Its a big problem when you concede goals by the bucket full. I fear that someone is going to do what Chelsea and Spurs did to Wigan.

Been Bobby's biggest fan ever since he walked through the door and still 100% behind him but I do feel he lacks that nastyness for want of a better word, it's hard to imagine him giving the players the hair dryer treatment in the changing room which at times is needed. He also appears to not want to hurt the feelings of too many of the players by not dropping them and in some cases even giving them new contracts. I wonder how many clangers Tim Howard has to make to be dropped or how bad Leon has to get to be never let near the 1st team again
You need to be strong though to manage.
You need to make sure players don't see any weakness.
Is the lack of leadership on the pitch reflected from the manager I don't know.

What did he learn from last season's Palace game?

Not to rest James McCarthy.
Dont tell me he underestimated them again on Sunday, because he never. 3 individual mistakes = 3 goals. Those mistakes dont happen we win the game. His selection in April got us terrored by them. Sunday was different.

Yes, and this season he's learned not to put him at right back. Each time Palace visit it's an opportunity for Bobby to get to know James a little better.

We've had worst starts to a season the way some fans go on, on twitter its like they have only been watching us the past 2/3 years in which we have been average good

Worse in terms of results - if it was "only" this issue I could live with that, but we're conceding 3+ goals per game. I just can't believe it, we're looking totaly clueless. I have seen a relegated teams with better organisation in defence ffs.

And since they scored a 2nd goal he made the same mistake he did last april when we were chasing them. Also their wingers absolutely murdered us again - I'm struggling to see many differences in those games.

He needs to sort the team out and spend less time issuing positive plaudits.

He also needs to realise that Rom can not control a ball so at least try and play through balls to him - £28m?! If he carries on the way he is going he won't be worth £10m.

Not a happy man.

Are you for real; you're getting 2 points and turning them into them same. My frustration on us not winning anything (which os now close yo a quarter of a generation) has nothing to do with a manager not identifying a problem on the pitch.

we're conceding an alarming rate of goals because there is a major hole in the centre of the field which our opponents are utilising and punishing us. its not an opinion, its a fact because its happening right in front of my eyes

I want Our manager to address this, batten down the hatches and make sure pur ddefensive unit is solid. Its his job, you do realise this don't you. Its starts against the RS

I thought I had established I am for real already. Or maybe that is just generally how you like to start your posts...

You brought up the seperate issue of your hard times as a fan, not me.

If you want to freak out over a bad patch of form, even though you say you´ve seen worse times in your life as an everton fan, and start bringing up the boring cliche of the Wigan defence then fine. Have fun, knock yourself out. It´s one thing discussing tactics or what you see need changing, it´s another going off on one knocking the manager who I would hope most fans who have seen the crap times at this club would give more time and patience to given the season and the players gave us last season.

For all your talk of big holes in the middle and tactical "nightmares", it is still a very valid and fair point that a large amount of the goals have just been individual errors that would not normally all happen in one period. In my opinion, as I won´t be throwing around facts Rafastyle here.

I will relax and have some patience that we will see this period through, and that even a poor season in the league this season will not automatically mean the managers tenure will be a failure overall.

Apart from the fact Rom quite clearly is trapping the ball and holding possession much much better than we he joined. I´m sorry, but we have bought a young player who isn´t the finished article even if he did cost a lot. We will just have to put up with some of these flaws, not stop passing it to him with his back to goal and ensuring he never grows in that part of his game.

And what a manager says post match means nothing. Some fans better get used to the fact that their own off the chart fuming will never be met by what our manager says in an interview and what he says in an interview won´t always reflect what he says behind doors.

Seriously don´t know why fans are looking to a post match interview for reassurances....

The general view it seems is about Martinez's lack of ability as a manager to defend when his team is attacking. This is based on the fact Wigan shipped goals and went down playing pretty football, much can be compared to us.

I see the problem being 3 yeatrs in the making. We knew distin would have to drop his performances as he got older yet as a club we did nothing. Now we have no replacement apart from a young lad or a crap injury prone cheap player. I see Martinez's biggest weakness since becoming our manager is not identifying this problem and looking to change it. I get why we signed alcaraz, i love the fact stones gets game time. up until this season the defence was not the issue we had but every problem we have regarding it has hit us all at the same time. The errors we are making as well worry me because its not bad defending we are doing, its us costing ourselves the goals.

But the other major worrying this is where the goals seem to come from. not to make them all scapegoats but Distin has cost us goals blatently in every game he has played through poor performances and terrible mistakes. Osman letting Boliase steal the ball from him ala sunderland last year and tonys inability to cope with a half decent wide player last night. It is all the older players that are being shown up and we have no replacements. the worst thing is there is no money to really sign replacements either so thats it now for the season. One or two injuries and its tits up for the team so to speak.

So for all the shouters out there, would you have taken Cleverley and a new centre half over osman and distin based on the start of the season? Can you see them improving over the season or just getting worse? the hibbert one was aknowledged by most but the other two certainly up for debate.

the only thing that stopped Sylvan retiring or going back to france to end his career is the fact we still promised him the first team, and now its backfiring on us.

And the only reason why Osman is not playing in the championship now is because he came through the club. The lad cant play for 90 minutes, gives the ball away and clearly now doesnt sprint after it anymore, his shooting is quite poor when we do create chances and we cant base his place in the squad on the basis of one or two good things he does now and again because there is plenty of players in the lower leagues who can do the same job for a third of the money and the desire to make it up in the top league. We need 90 minute players and Leon isnt one of them and hasnt been for a couple of seasons now.

But only everton do we not care about these things and hope nothing changes.

It could be just like you're takling, but don't you have a worry that one bad season could mean we are about to implode? I mean how many of our players will want to stay here if we finish somewhere around 8th? I can see Mirallas, McCarthy, Coleman and even Barkley and Stones with a desire to leaving. It's how things works these days - if we want to keep them, we have to still improving as a team. Otherwise we will lose them and we can easily turn into another Sunderland or Villa.

That's why I don't underestimate our very poor start. I hope with all my heart I'm wrong but things are starting to worry me.

Not starting to panic yet, things havent been great but its a fine margin, cut out some of the howlers and mistakes from the so called seasoned veterans and we'd be not far of the top. The positive is that the other so called top 4 contenders have all been up and down in form so far, the fume was always going to be off the charts if we lost a few games but thats purely because of the high standards and expectations that roberto has brought, and imo he deserves time and backing to put things right.

We're all experianced enough to know all it takes is a run of 4 or 5 wins which we are capable of to put us right towards the top.

Obviously want us to get up to speed sooner rather than later but im trying to stay calm for at least another 4 or 5 games then ill get a bit worried.

Hopefully roberto starts to get ruthless and drop players if they continue to play poorly
