Roberto Martinez discussion

Didn't the others count? You don't want to be in the SF of the LC or 4th round of the FA Cup?

Those wins your're not arsed about then?

Ok.
I admire your fortitude @davek, but you're struggling he're. Cup success is a great bonus, but the league is where it counts. 4 league wins from 16 games is a shocking return for this group of players. We could and should be doing better.

No chance on earth? If United win tomorrow they're 7 points off them. 16 games to go . Not exactly mission impossible like is it?

I think a wise move at least would be to wait and see a) who United buy this month and b ) who Leicester possibly lose. This is a marathon not a sprint, and I don't expect Leicester to be 4th over the line.

Circumstances have changed for Leicester since they played us. Once, everything was going their way.

Now Vardy has missed a couple of games and Mahrez has missed a couple of penalties.

And today's equalizer came from a deflected shot, while Gestede could easily have been penalised for hand ball.

Luck can change quickly - and it could change just as quickly for us too.

I appreciate your support for the manager and support for continuity but you can't seriously expect all fans to be happy being in 12th. Also yes I am happy we are in both cups, but cup games shouldn't be make or break for as talented a squad as we have. We have 1 win since the villa game. Thats indefensible.

Mostly daft draws and two defeats.

Nothing major wrong here.

On the cups/league debate: not for me. I could give a flying one about finishing where we are if we get into a cup final.

11tn or 5th is the same to me....Not worth the effort.

to be fair, if the linesman did his job properly the idiot, we would be 8th, which although still not good enough, looks a lot better, two 98 minute goals we've conceded, without that we'd be up at 5th.

we CAN go on a run and as we proved on wednesday, we CAN defend, against the very best as well. We're not a lucky team though, that much is clear and that is a few points hinderance every season.

The biggest frustration is that if we would of got the three points today it would of meant we were right back in the mix.
I never buy into the 'we deserve' type quotes, but we didn't deserve that outcome today.

It doesn't matter what people argue over stats or RM being the right or wrong man for the job, the simple facts are a win today could of been a great catalyst for the second half of the season. The confidence it would of created in the dressing room and the fanbase would/could of reaped untold rewards.

This result has deflated most fans as simply it is a massive missed opportunity - of no fault of our own

Once again the usual scaremongers are out and once again they are willing for RM to be dismissed - death by stats
Today's result on paper was a good point, it doesn't feel like but let's not go to town on defending and RM tactics.
Today should be viewed as a great opportunity missed, but something that was in the main completely taken out of our hands.
I am just gutted over the result

bet Leeds fans were saying the same thing about there squad not long before they went down.no good having great talent in the squad if your not winning games. The better players jump ship.

its a results game pure and simple as you say , the cup is buying him time and it should in a way , but we need wins ,dont care how or what way or its going to be another wasted season.
in saying that getting a draw with city and chelsea with a few players out isnt that bad, think the shape of the team is looking a bit better, beat Swansea and get the final things look a bit better for the run in .

Correct, string 3 wins in a row and we are pushing again.

The last two games only show what a big opportunity we've let slip this season in the league.

Carlo anceloti's talks about when he started out at his first big job at Parma. He wanted to play 4-4-2 so he sold gianfranco Zola to Chelsea as he didn't think he fitted the system. He says it was his biggest regret of his managerial career as he should of picked a system to fit his best players & not played a system he thought was the best way to play.
The point is Martinez is about the same age as ancellotiti was then & he makes these mistakes too however it clearly took him years to realise the error of his ways we can't attract a top manger so we have to wait whilst a promising one learns hopefully that is Martinez I'd take this over Moyes all day

Imagine how much worse this place would be if we were in the relegation zone.
