Roberto Martinez discussion

The people who annoy me more than the knee-jerkers are those who seem to believe Martinez is immune to criticism. He did a great job last year and I'm sure he will in the future, but I think he's had a bit of a shocker so far this season.

Oh for sure.

Hes made some unreal mistakes, some terrible line ups, sticking Eto'o at left wing to name 1, also hes been very slow with regards subs at times.

He takes his share of the blame so far for me, but honestly its 70% players making stupid basic errors all over the pitch.

As for Distin and Jags: sorry mate - they defo weren't 'fine' last season. They were far from being fine and looked as rocky last season on set pieces as they do now. Besides that, Martinez knows that players into their 30s can go pop all of a sudden and suffer huge losses in form. He should have been building for that. The only thing he did in terms of CB was to add Besic (who he's not even tried to utilise in that role)...oh, and let go of another CB. He screwed up in the summer.
Of the CBs that moved in the summer though Dave who would you have brought?

Barkley: he gives us so much more than a couple of goals that Naismith has given us (Naismith has a free role and I'd expect anyone up front...because thats where he plays...to get those three league goals given the liberty he has to focus on getting in the box). Barkley gives us shape: he's the pivot...THE transition player from defence to attack and vice versa. We miss him badly (and someone able to approximate his effort was essential if we were to not be derailed in his absence).

Lukaku: he's out of sorts because he's not top dog in the strikers stakes these days and he's not serviced with decent balls playing off the shoulder of defenders. He's having to shift wide right and skivvy for Naismith a lot of the time. The shape we have up front is a mess. I swear to God Martinez has no idea whatsoever which players will be playing on the flanks from game to game.

We'll be sorted when/if Martinez brings in a tried and tested PL standard CB and we get Barkley back. I honestly dont see us turning this around until after the New Year.

Our defence let in less goals than 17 other Premier League sides.

Honestly no idea, from what ive seen, I think he would suit RB more, but he could go either way.

Along similar lines, I think there'll be a big decision to be made as to whether Stones & Jags --> Stones & Browning/Galloway is viable as succession plan or not.

The problem was our pre-season was dreadful, our players has a longer holiday then most players, it might pay off in the longer run. Barkley injury has give us a headace, now coleman been out for the last 3 games and now Mirallas, no Pienaar. Injuries are coming. Players like McGeady haven't really stepped up. Still believe in Martinez and would like to keep him for the long-term. He just needs to keep a settled defence but he new at having a big squad and playing games in Europe, he on a learning curve. Its not the end of the world, we're close to the top 4 and we're top in our group.

I disagree with that.

Aiden has done very well most the time he has played for us.

He was our most dangerous player in Russia.
Dear me, can i have some of the blue tinted glasses you are watching everton through, all credibility is now lost if you think that mcgeady has been anything other than absoloute shyte since he joined. HE WILL NOT MAKE IT AT EVERTON.
