Roberto Martinez discussion

I don't think any teams problems are ever completely down to the manager. Even if I was the manager I would expect a minimum level of effort and ability to be shown which should be enough to win a number of games, and there's no doubt the players have to shoulder a lot of blame when things don't go our way.

I think the other point you make is evened out over the season though. The striker has an off day every now and again where he doesn't score but then he'll have days where he gets very little service but manages to make something for himself and bury a half chance against the run of play. Swings and roundabouts and not a justification for poor results.

Yeah fair point. What we need is consistency

Well it's no worse, and has the possibility of being better. You just dont know.

I dont know what the fixation is with just home games. If we'd won 8 at home and none away would this be a great step forward or something?
Because over the years it's always been pretty decent. What was missing was the 7 wins away to push us on. Well now we have the away form but the home form has dipped badly to a point that it looks like we are going backwards.

Also my original point was that there is no need to play the same formation or team at home that is doing so well away because there is no parking of the bus when we are away.

The manager has to take the blame. You see 27 goals scored at home this season (the total for last) proves the attackers are doing their job and everything looks rosy. You then see we have conceded 23 (more than the total for last), the worst in the league then something doesn't add up.

Had the players taken even half of the chances they'd created we'd have scored about 35 this season at home...

If the home form has dipped markedly it's partly as a result of them feeling under immense pressure to get the job done in less than 45 minutes. There's no question this team feels more comfortable on the road in front of its own away fans and the opposition fans.

That's been the case since they got on the team's back just over a year ago.

Wouldn't blame the fans to be honest - but the pressure from the crowd - as much as it can be a benefit - can, at times, be a detriment.

Is still down to the players on the pitch as well obviously.

That may all be true, but I suppose the question is as a club how do we overcome it?

If's and but's though. Who's to say we wouldn't have also conceded more as it's no coincidence that we only seem to mostly get beat by the odd goal. Whether that odd goal be in 1, 3, 5 or 7.

Football is a game of ifs and buts mate...

I'm basing that on the fact that teams - on the whole - have taken their chances at Goodison when they've had them.

We - in a lot of the games we haven't won - haven't.

Teams don't usually come to Goodison and create loads and be wasteful...

The players have to shoulder some of the blame as does Martinez on the amount of goals we concede, at the end of the day though, Martinez can't be blamed if our defenders make mistakes, or fail to clear the ball.

They cant do it every week. They can do it once every so often: winning ugly or whatever the divvies say.

Performance > results.

Stand on me on that lad.

It's a shame our best players won't see it that way when they jump ship to teams that can get results and performances, setting us back another few years

Oh great. It's the fans fault now. Where will this ever end.
If you think any of the prima donnas earning thousands a week give a crap what the hard working supporters shout at them in a game then you have really lost it. The fans are entitled to voice their opinion if what they are seeing is no good. As long as it's not personal or racist then this is no excuse at all.

I'd have to disagree with that. Yes we've been wasteful in games, and there have been some games where we've had an overwhelming amount of efforts without scoring, but to suggest the same hasn't happened the other way round is really pushing it.

It's not rare for teams to Goodison and have 10+ shots, which is one of the main reasons we concede so many. If you allow teams to get into decent areas and shoot as much as we do then you'll pay for it eventually.
