Roberto Martinez discussion

We have won 4 home games in 8 months with the best squad we have ever had in the prem
Moysie had us 6th or 7th and he has managed to take us down to 11th.
He persisted with a scared goalie for 18 months not knowing what to do.
Martinez is out of his depth my friend
The sooner he goes the safer we will be

And who comes in?

Looks like Lineker isn't short sighted and sees the progress his club has taken with its squad building of a young team. Says we can challenge for the title next season if we keep the players together. Don't remember anyone saying that about us since the eighties. Must be doing something right in our squad build. Problem is because we are not a sky 4/5 the biggest problem is keeping them together. Year on and more experience.

Gary Lineker backs Everton for title challenge next season - if they keep squad together

Ex- Everton striker Gary Lineker claims the Blues can replicate the title-chasing success of Leicester City next season - if they keep their squad together.

The former Blues forward says Roberto Martinez’s side have been “hit and miss” this term but has seen enough in the team to convince him they can be challenging at the top of the table.

Lineker says Everton have also been unlucky and reckons that if they can resist the approaches of rival clubs for their star names again this summer then the Blues have the potential to be fighting for the championship.

“It has been a bit hit and miss in terms of results [this season] but Everton are one of the sides that I really love to watch. They play great football and the entertainment value, for me, is a big part of the game.

They have been unfortunate in some games and perhaps let things slip when they shouldn’t have done - but I wouldn’t be panicking as an Everton fan with the players the club has.

“They have resisted other clubs trying to get those players, which is a good sign, and they have got the makings of a side who could go on and do something like Leicester have done. That’s not beyond the realms of possibility next season if they can keep the current bunch together.”

We can't deny at times the football we play had been scintillating, just look at the first half at Stoke, but being so arsed about possession football and being happy to lose as long as the possession stats are in our favour is just not Everton for me, I'd take a poor performance with an own goal off the opposition defenders arse and win 1-0 as appose to a defeat with 60% possession and rattling the bar about 7 times which seems to be the story of our season

I said in his last season alone, that was just off the top of my head. I could trawl through all of our results from the 11 years he was manager but I won't.

Talking of value for money I got a lot more of that when Moyes was manager than now. Going to Goodison then I actually saw us win games. El Fraudo's turned it from a fortress to a gift shop.

That would be the 11 years where we won nothing, hardly beat a top team away in nearly 50 outings and enjoyed the delights of Denis Straquilirsi, Victor Anichibie, five right-backs in a squad of 17 etc.....if that floats your boat great. Sure, we had some decent results but we also had some dour, dour tripe served up. Martinez delivers a team that wants to win....doesn't always come to fruition but the intent to control the game and win it is there every game we play. Neither are perfect, but personally I prefer the fella who unbelievably got over £6.5M for Victor Anichibie and brought in the likes of Lukaku, Delofeu and has faith in Barkley.

In reality he got us into the champions league.
I forget being so high up the table because coco can't get us passed 11th
To be fair he got us into the qualifying round, and very very quickly out of it with a poor showing at GP and a refereeing error in Spain. Sure, Villareal went to the semi that year.....but we didn't.
'Coco' got us to 5th didn't he?

You make it so difficult not to though mate.
I have never come across a person so one sided to an argument as you. I thought my old fella was bad but you've beaten him hands down.

You've even forced me to post this (twice now)

14 wins from 34 games that includes 2 world beating cup runs is seen as progress.

This you will find fault with and now you will go back to since xmas or last 5 games or since our last game.
We've played 36 competitive games this season and won 16 (getting on for half)....we've lost 8 times (one in every five games).

I'm sorry, but if you think that's a damning record you really should go and take a look around the competitive record of all PL clubs in all competitions this season.

It's apparent now to me that our PL home form is being used to skew the fundamental nature of our season so far. 8 losses in 36 games! Before the season started if someone were to tell any Evertonian that we'd reach March with a record like that they'd have been happy to sign up for it.

I'm changing my mind on this myself now: recently I think I might have been brow beaten into calling this a 'decent' season. It is't. It's a good season by anyone's yardstick for a club not financially doped.

Good season. Right. Nice too see you're so easily pleased.

You have you're opinion of where we should be, I have mine. I'll leave it as that.

One post correct earlier, 41k posts and none of us are for changing.

Dave you simply must be getting drunk on two separate occasions each day of the week. We have had a bye to a LC SF and went out the moment a decent team was met, the bookies will tell you that feat will be repeated in the FA Cup and we have won 8 league games all season 4 of which against the bottom 3 and only 1 (Southampton) against a team in the top half.

If you think it's been a good season fine, but Almost nobody will agree with you.

I have often said this - it's like the old board thread; neither "side" will give an inch.

I hate using "side" when referring to blues.

I don't think that's true at all really about most people in the thread - it's just sabotaged a bit by those who are just... insanely extremist and either don't/won't see anything Martinez does as right/wrong (delete were applicable), as proved by a post by someone a few above, then people will do what is natural when it comes to an opinion of a thing; either shift for or against it based on evidence.

It's only those who have absolutely no interest in being wrong on the internet who will be... "davek-ey" about things. So about one in every hundred people. It's just that those people tend to shout the loudest and say the most stupid things that get a bigger counter-reaction.
