Roberto Martinez discussion

I know we lost yesterday but I still think he's a good 'un. To be positive, it ended an 8 match unbeaten run - we're disappointed because he's raised our expectations again.

We're expecting to be good going forward, we're expecting to score goals. Yes, Sunday was crap but 96 hours ago we were the best thing since sliced bread for topping the EL group unbeaten with a game to spare. Let's not let a bad day at the office sour expectations - this year was always gonna be tougher.

And it wasn't even like we were bad the whole game.....up until Spurs equalised I thought we were going to win at a canter.

Bobby must be as frustrated as we are to see senior players, not for the first time thus season, completely screw up simple tasks and allow the opposition back into the game.

I've said it for the past few weeks: he's thrown the kitchen sink at demanding strong European performances to the detriment of the next PL game up. He defo wants to beef up his managerial profile. No question in my mind. We all want Everton to do well in Europe, and qualifying for the KO stage is a target we had to hit. But where I'd part company with him is that once we had this group under control he didn't take his foot off the gas a bit and manage the last couple of games. He's over-pressed in these midweek games and we've paid the price with some half paced performances.

That's the one thing about Roberto I cant abide: his eye for the next step in Project Martinez. He's very quick to take up the media work and he very definitely is looking to use the EL as a platform for himself.

Could also be because EL is a way into the CL?

To seek to portray the current successful EL campaign as little more than a vanity project for Martinez is a stretch even by your standards.

We didn't have the EL group 'under control' until last Thursday, as a defeat would have left winning the group out of our hands.

On the Main Page this looks like it comes up as "Martinez - Who Else Is Wearing the Foot Log Hot Dog" and it is why I am here.

I am not reading 277 pages of Hot Dog Suit related material.

I'm out.

Yeah, he cited refereeing decisions which he doesn't often do. We were crap, like. Very slow and laboured in the build-up and very few chances created. I still wish this mask thread would disappear though, Martinez is an excellent manager and we'll be up there or thereabouts by the season's end.

Definitely

I'd take this a bit further and add that "senior" players - i.e. the oldies, tend to make more mistakes as they get tired more quickly. If this league form continues, we'll lose a lot of money for league placing and TV appearances.

We DON'T have the squad to cope with the Europa and the league - the names might look good but the reality is a squad filled with oldies and kids and a few players in their prime. (It's what we can afford.)

Next year, if he can convince the talented kids to stay, has to be the year he does something with the group or in my belief, he can wave tara to Barks, and possibly Stones and Garbutt. Not an easy task as next season he will have to replace some of the oldies unless he's planning on playing them wearing oxygen masks and supping Complan.

Hope you're wrong; fear you may be right.

Yesterday was disappointing after the midweek game as it looked like this would now be the time to push on and ramp up the league form.

He picked an almost fantasy XI for most Evertonian's with Eto'o, Barkley, Mirallas and Lukaku up top and there was only McCarthy missing from what was realistically our strongest XI so we have no excuses.

Bearing in mind we have Man City next week, this is starting to look a bit dangerous, so the big players need to start attacking with a bit more purpose and we need an end product.

We over pass and over pass to the point of annoyance sometimes. Possession football is obviously the way forward and we are pretty good at it, however you need some urgency and end product which we seemed to be lacking yesterday.

We need a BIG second half of the season.

Project Martinez as opposed to Project Moyes?

Project Pocchetino?

Project Ferguson?

This post is bordering on Conspiracy Theory Davo. If we'd have beat Spurs would you still agree with what you've just written?

And furthermore, is it not a Job and is not more important to win a Cup than the 7th Place Trophy?

And lastly, would you begrudge a Man who thinks he can manage at the Highest Level not having that shot? If you say it's detrimental to us as a Club I say to you we are IN Europe for starters.

And just to round off, was this not the aim of the previous Season and if so, what would abandoning the European Campaign only to concentrate on getting high enough in the League to compete the following Season?

You have Thirty Seconds.
