Roberto Martinez discussion

I think we can win the Europa League.

I don't think we have the consistency or squad depth to finish fourth after our indifferent start and bad luck with injuries

I would happily finish midtable if we won the Europa seeing as last time we won a cup I was seven years old!

Me to!

Dare I say, a Moyes type team would have a field day against us ATM. The energy levels and pressing Spurs showed against us were typical of the effort the team used to put in under Moyes. Our pedestrian build up would play right into his hands.

When Moyes went defensive against the better sides, he never employed the high defensive line, high pressing style.

They dropped off, leaving no space in behind and allowed the opposition to come onto them, or in short, the complete opposite of how Spurs played on Sunday.

Fair enough, but regardless of tactics I think Moyes teams would have us beat - even if it meant allowing us high levels of possession. His sides played with a level of focus unmatched by the current setup.

When you surrender possession to a good footballing side, you rarely come out of it with a positive result, as Moyes record against most of the top PL sides proves. Our problem all season has been individual mistakes leading to conceding poor goals. Can you attribute that to the manager? Not sure myself like.

I think tactically at times we've looked a tad one dimensional, I'd like to see more of a 'plan b' when we're being nulified and he needs to stop putting square pegs in round holes with his team selections, but overall I still think he's doing a great job.

A big game for Martinez tomorrow especially with city next.
If we lose to hull at home and play the same slow way even the staunchest Martinez fans must start asking questions.
They were awful against united Saturday and are ripe for a beating

One dimensional yes, and that's putting it mildly - we look hopelessly plodding most of the time. Moyes would not have tolerated that - and lets not forget that Martinez has a better playing squad than Moyes ever had. I just think the results would have been better if we had Moyes as manager with the same squad this sesaon - and I am no Moyes lover.

We won't lose against Hull at home ffs. We will win it 3-1 and everyone here will be content (again). So many kneejerk reactions in here when we're losing is shocking.

I'm not even logging the day when we're losing.

I agree we were awful against Spurs, but you can't have everything. If Roberto's priority is EL then we have to swallow games like these. Especialy with our injury record.

Impossible to say that, as Moyes would never have been able to attract some of the players that we now have.

He needs to get them to do more work around moving the ball out of defence quicker. You can play passing, possession football but it doesn't have to be pedestrian and predictable and that's what we have become at times. We'll knock it around the backline, the oppostion press, and we launch it, which negates the entire point.

And I reckon we will smash Hull, QPR and Stoke at home, draw in Southampton and win at Newcastle and we'll be in a very good position on new year.

Mark my words.

Okay, I'm ready. I have avoided this forum. I've turned and sweated in bed, woke up in fits of fume, had nightmares about the sheer inevitability of Roberto Goaldado scoring against us. I've gone on long walks, avoided caffeine and scribbled all of my thoughts into a Hello Kitty diary. I've decided: Roberto Martinez is still a good manager.

Well actually I say that we have a better playing squad than under Moyes, but if you look at the problems relating to individuals its the veterans in the spine of the team who have let us down - Barry, Distin, Howard, Eto'o so maybe this emphasis on 'quality' over longevity isnt as sound as it may look on paper.
