Roberto Martinez discussion

Aim with new investment is to make sure the money is spent by a guy who can attract top talent to the club.

Strangely, Martinez does have that pull with younger players, but we're in a different league financially now and we can pay top wages if need be you'd assume, so yeah, you could look at Mourinho and Pellegrini seriously in the summer. Maybe. Just depends how it plays out, but if you offer great wages, a massive war chest and the chance to make history at a club like ours, I'd imagine some very decent managers would be tempted at this point.

So in short, we don't have to have the argument about who would replace Martinez anymore. Whoever it would be, it'd be someone of decent calibre now, as we have the muscle to attract them.

It's time we upgrade from the Spanish version of Mark Hughes to a proper manager.

Didnt like Pellegrinis attitude in the FA Cup personally, I know why he did it, but it didnt sit right with me, plus hes had all the money in the world and pretty much failed.

aye, because that ALWAYS ends well.

Stability and continued slow growth is always the best way. Not being trapped in a cycle of tearing up the plan/squad every 2 years. If it doesn't work for City/Chelsea and Man Utd when they have hundreds of millions to spend every summer on the best players how does it work further down the food chain? Consistency is what's needed not random change just for the sake of it.
Is this a wind up

Exactly. Not saying Martinez didn't make mistakes today but we seem to be ignoring the fact that 11 v 10 for an hour is tough and teams do usually lose. Especially against teams that are flying. And I really don't think Martinez had missed how much work Lennon and Rom were doing so it's totally possible they were being protected for the quarter finals which to my mind is a bigger game.[/QUOTE
No, no and no

It's a results based industry and we are only three points ahead of Bournemouth..... equally confusing is we have the 6th best goal difference in the league.

It is really hard to tell with Martinez, slightly flawed but almost very good manager or just lucky he inherited a good squad and has a 20 goal a season striker.

This is the season to judge him on results - good squad - full transfer windows to do with as he wanted, didn't loose any players and a shaken up league with many in different performances. He's got till the end of the season for me, FA Cup and 5-7th fine, mid table nothingness and he's gone.

The squad he inherited was mot "good" at all. It was an ageing team and thank goodness most of those left will be out on their ear this summer.

He has hand one hand tied behind his back unable to shift those players and additionally you may say he has had several transfer windows to improve the squad but its not enough. Saying he has spent money also is true but again hes signed top quality when he has had money to spend but he has needed until this summer to add the 3 or 4 players he needs which will make a huge diference.

So not only changing the poor squad he was left but also the style of play and systems as well as having brought in young players who need time to develop tskes time.

ive consistently said 3 seasons were needed. Next season a push for top 4 when we will have his squad and te following season we must get top 4 as well because that should be enough time for these players to gel.

Oh and saying about Lukaku, Martinez signed him.

Mate we have won, I believe, 4 home games since April 2015? Is that true? I just heard that on youtube. The 3 bottom teams and Chelsea. We regularly fold like a cheap suit in the last 10 minutes of games...even two goals up.

Top 4? Sorry Zatara, but let's all take a reality pill. We are into March and haven't reached 40 points yet.
And I am someone who was in the 'Martinez In' camp.

But Everton changed 7 days ago if we're to believe what little we have been told.

If Mr Moshiri does indeed have grand plans and money to take Everton to the top, I'm sorry but before we even spend £1 on any footballer, go out and get the best available Manager money can buy and build around him.

Great bloke Roberto. Has many positive qualities. But his best and worst are just so far apart and we can't be the basket case football club he is making us for the next few seasons he tries and works out his stuff. West Brom are waiting for that.

It's a brutal call I know.

We are Everton.

The Martinez apologists are comical to me now, you're like a wife who keeps sticking up for the husband who beats her up.

Moyes finishing 5th-7th was deemed boring with no progress being made, Martinez was supposed to be the man to take us into the Champions League and push us forward he's spent a fortune by Everton standards and we're now on course to finish a 2nd straight season in 11th.

The Martinez apologists who say he "inherited a weak squad", what does that say about his management that the weak squad he inherited performed much better than his squad what he's spent a fortune on.

Everton have gone backwards, keep deluding yourself to think otherwise, we've played a full season and 3/4 of 11th place football now what else needs to be said?

Agree with this. Misplaced loyalty.

He seems a nice guy, represents the club well... but it's a results business, and his results since he's been here haven't been good enough.

Were Everton to make the decision to change manager, some of those currently available...
Moyes - no, been there done that ?
Rodgers - surely nobody would seriously entertain this clown ?
Benitez - doubt he would entertain it ?
Mourinho - once said he could manage Everton, flaky character these days, but the initial 1-2 years could be fun ?
Pellegrini - well travelled, experienced, not a loose cannon... worth a shout ?

Each would be insane for a variety of reasons.

While I agree with a lot of that, can we swerve the Martinez apologists and plotters terms? All a bit silly.

A fortnight ago I would have been in favour of Pellegrini.

The team he put out at Chelsea changed my opinion of him.

He could have sent out a much stronger XI even resting half his first team.
