Roberto Martinez discussion

what that our attack is ok, our defense hasn't been but is improving?
or that the new owner isn't going to do exactly want was successful at Arsenal and sell up large sections of his business empire to spend on the hideously overpriced end of the transfer market when Bobby has already proven he can find equally good players cheaper.

He'll see us like Arsenal were 10 years ago. Good attacking team, Stadium to sort out, Stable Manager with a track record of finding gems for not ridiculous money, etc.
He will sack him come summer and rightly so.
4 home wins in nearly 9 months is disgraceful.

Wow.

Arsenal 10 years ago had won the Premier League 3 times in the preceding decade, and had only been out of the top 3 once in those 10 years. They'd also won the FA Cup 4 times and been to a Champions League Final.

You're really going to throw around comparisons between Wenger 10 years ago and Martinez now? Seriously?

I am frustrated with Martinez but feel the players are getting away with little or no criticism. You don't need a genius defensive coach to tell you how to do the basics, stopping crosses and challenging in the air, being aware of the knock on. It's a collective responsibility.
Yes mate, you are not wrong. The players we have possess a soft underbelly that beggars belief. I am equally angry with their inability to 'hold the trench' as I am with their manager's overall inability to lend that trench succour.
As Pink Floyd sang

Forward he cried from the rear
and the front rank died

...fools leading weak hearted.

Recipe for disaster.

Leading 2-0 with 12 minutes to play....lost 2-3...
...terrible generals...

... and weak soldiers.

I'm not saying we've improved - far from it. We've been utter garbage and managed to win some games this season, we've been decent in others and lost; or we've thrown away 2 goal leads in others.

I still see signs that we're easily capable of beating ourselves. I'm far from convinced at the moment...

:(

No, scrub that. I meant.

Disagree, the manager and coaching staff set the standards on training and performances through their coaching and tactical briefing to the players

this seems to be a recurring theme with Martinez as he is obsessed with spaces in the oppositions half while ignoring tge glaring spaces in our defence.

With seen it with Wigan and eventually not defending properly sent them down. The reality is that with Martinez we are always going score goals but concede more.

keeping him on long term will finally see the unthinkable happen....Relegation

Last season we won 7 games at home, the lowest since 2000 - 2001 when we finished 16th under Smith. Under David Moyes the fewest wins we had at home was 8 and that includes the season he took over.

We have 4 home wins this season so far, 4! We have 4 home games left. Martinez could easily lead us to our fewest home wins since the PL started.

And for those stats alone, he should not unreasonably expect to have his contract terminated.

Which is all fine and good except there seems to be no accountability from Martinez because he constantly picks the same ones.

rebuilt the team (defence wasn't a problem in the first year), managed to get us scoring freely (which has been a problem), not it's just a case of shutting the door at te back (which has been the main problem after the attack was sorted)

I was being a bit flippant with the 2 year comment, the first season it looked after itself.

Nonetheless, it seemed to take him a long time to address the defence problem after the second season and up until Xmas of the third. Is it not possible to multitask, sort out defence and attack together?

The concern is that you can't have the free scoring the way Martinez desires it and not have a leaky defence.

Posted this earlier, but it's like a recurring migraine :

You can coach and preach tactics till your blue in the face but if players don't follow it in a game your screwed. My point was players went into panic mode and forgot how to do their job.
