Roberto Martinez discussion

Our excessive passing from the back is not due to the lack of confidence, our boring buildup is not 100% due to confidence. It's more likely Martinez footballing philosophy. We're pushing up too slowly it's clear for everyone to see, we're play beautiful attacking football when we attack with speed. It's clearly more footballing issue than confidence.

disagree, with low confidence and poor form...the options for passing are not as numerous. You can see it every time when on the ball. I have rarely seen us with lots of options forward and we are just not taking them.

John Aldridge was on 5 live earlier doing the most long winded excuse ever for his twitter tirade against the Everton fan the other week and how he should not have reacted but then finished by saying " People think Rodgers job is in danger, but he is on the same points as Martinez and we have a run of winnable games. Everton lose to Hull and them fans will turn on Roberto with the same horrible abuse they gave me "

Just when I thought he was trying to be a bit humble and apologetic he sticks the knife in.

John Aldridge on City laughing about us booing and seeing the abuse for Martinez on Twitter saying he told us so. The man can't help it can he. But then again, the reaction on here and he has a point for a change.

The pedestrian build up is where the Mike Walker comparisons can be made

I made this point a while back Got a bit of grief for it but it cannot be ignored. Slow, ponderous passing is killing us. If we could instantly change the tempo it could be very effective, but we can't, we just lose control of basic passes. Dreadful to watch at the moment. :(

it's not hard to figure out, if you play out slow, opponent have more time to organize and restrict your passing options. It's footballing issue mate.

yep, if you only play out slow. And an Everton team in form wont only play out slow. They are not in from hence the slowness and the lack of options.

Its a confidence/form issues!

anyway, tomato tomato..potato potato

Baines, Coleman, Stones, Jags, Lukaku, Eto, Kev, Barkley, McCarthy

Thats a good start right there
Agreed. Problem is those 9 can't get on the park together and the ones coming in are average....so most days half the team on the park is average...hence average position on table.....

average.............

Would be tempted to try Eto alongside Lukaku, maybe try for Delph to play alongside McCarthy centre mid, and let's be more direct. Our football is painful to watch for the most part.

I do remember those terrible days of 93/94 as walkers posession game - we barely ever got out of our half btw - slowly destroyed the clubs results and confidence. We were so lucky not to get relegated because of it. I don't know if we will be involved in a relegation struggle but the style is the same.

That 0-2 home game to Coventry is still to this day the worst performance i have seen. I think we should have enough to stay roughly where we are, but with the personnel at our dispossal, that is shocking. If we finish 12th but win the Europa League then fair enough. But he is putting alot of onus on that trophy. Fail to win it whilst wallowing around 14th spot and serious questions need asking imo.

Is it their year this year?

Don't let it slip Aldridge

We've been playing slowly even during our unbeaten run prior to the defeat last week. An unbeaten run of 5 or 7 games is enough to build confidence but we're still witnessing dire game vs west ham and Swansea to name a couple.
