Roberto Martinez discussion

very worrying stuff coming out of the club atm. such a bittersweet time to be an everton fan.

i think its been obvious to all that the players have no confidence in shutting out the opposition. That's on martinez.

Martinez has come out and said we don't have a weakness defending crosses, while the west ham players said bilic told them to put balls into the box in the last 15 minutes because we can't defend our box. Wonder who is right. ? More of the same I'm afraid every premiere league manager is going to bombard our box for the rest of the season.

No. Records will say that Everton won it, with Roberto Martinez as our manager.

If he wins the FA Cup - our first trophy in 21 years - then he stays.
I see the cups as a bonus. The league is our bread and butter. 60 points or he's toast for me. Cup win or not.

There's an element of luck to winning a cup. It's not always a reflection of the actual ability of the team or manager.

An apt comparison is Wigan. Cup winners relegated the same season.

Winning the cup would be amazing but it shouldn't be seen as a sign of improvement or a successful manager

Think was bit of mischief from Bilic to be honest. They would have been pumping as many crosses into the box whoever it was down to ten men and tiring.

If Martinez seriously doesn't see we have a major problem defending crosses then I really do question the man's sanity. It's like he has completely closed his mind to the idea that our bad form could have ANYTHING to do with him and his tactics. I don't believe he is the man to take us forward and the sooner we get rid the better. Obviously I'd welcome Martinez proving me wrong and turing things around but I'm not convinced he has the ability to do it.

Your missing the point - if we go a goal down are you then demanding the managers head or supporting our team to try and win the game? There is a minority on here who perhaps want to see a defeat in order to spend their Sat night typing furiously on here. This game is bigger than the manager - it's our football club 1 game from Wembley.

I disagree completely with this. I would love to be proven wrong in a huge way, I would love this manager to become the manager i thought he could be, when he inherited a great squad with lots of talent. I would of loved to of been proven wrong at the majority of our home games.
Unfortunatly the reality started to sink in that his first season was pure luck, and the opposition set up to face a Moyes team.
Martinez took them by suprise with attacking football, but they soon learnt how to set up against us and have been doing so ever since.
I would love him to prove me and his critics wrong, I have no problem addmitting when I am wrong and apologising, I would love to say I was wrong about him. I hope we smash city however I think he will set up to score 7 if they score 6

Slaven Bilic told his players to be less sexy at half-time on Saturday.

The key to Martinez's future is just this.

We need to become 20% sexier. Porn star, unchristian type sexiness to defeat our opponents who are less sexy.

After a few days of frustration and confusion, I now have clarity.

Martinez in and whether we win the FA Cup or not, Martinez in and I hope we knock Chelsea out in style.

The key is signings this summer, a little more motivation and a really good start to next season.

I hope we don't just make Goodison a fortress but turn it into a porn set, starting this Saturday.

If we lose and the players lose their way, Martinez will be under pressure so let's all hope that we destroy them. He is an inspiring, special man and I don't like criticising him. I enjoyed criticising David Moyes far more!

Goodison is just like a porn set mate as we are taking it rar up the arse on a regular basis

There's also an element of luck in the league as well.

I'm sorry but if RM wins the cup he gets time (albeit with targets he has to meet) at the start of next season. Same if he manages to somehow get top 7.

If not then fine I'd be happy to see him replaced come May.

The Echo turning on Martinez is very interesting.

You wonder if they've seen/heard what way the wind is blowing, so to speak.

He's doing himself no favours at all though with his quotes. I'll precede this by re-stating my position on the fence till the end of the season, but I'm sick of the way he handles press conferences when there is any criticism of the team at all. He takes the piss.

“It's not like they bombarded the box. They had two crosses and scored two goals, that's bad defending rather than having a (specific) weakness."

Antonio (rightfully) points out that we're bad at defending crosses and that West Ham exploited that.

Martinez responds with "I know we conceded 100% of the time from crosses but I wouldn't say that's a weakness". Well, I wouldn't call it a strength Bobby.

Followed up with these two:

We're not seeing opponents beating us easily, it's the opposite,”

And then

“We've grown as a team, we've shown we can score goals and defend really really well, but then we go into periods where we can't really defend and we get hurt too easy and concede goals that affect scorelines with extreme ease.

The damning fact for me is the comparison record to Tony Pulis.

He's doing the exact same job as him but in an opposite style.

I'm a fan of Pulis. He's very good at what he does. But what he's never had is £30-40million players, 20 goals a season strikers, a squad full of internationals etc.

Because it wasn't a like for like sub Zat, the commetary said it was - they no surprise got that wrong, Lennon was playing wide and pressing the hell out of them when they had the ball, when we had it he was bombing forward to join rom, naisse just came on and ambled around up front, closed down nothign and didnt go wide when they had it

we went from 4-4-1 to a 4-3-2 when he came on mate, thats why we got all those crosses coming in after the sub
@BlueToff

Even the tactical analysis is showing 4-3-1-1 with lennon as support forward (moved inside from the left) so of course niasse played the same position.

that info is freely available in the everton news thread as well.

if you want to say niasse was useless then thats different to the system and tactics.
