Roberto Martinez discussion

We have been to OT, Stamford Bridge and the Emirates; gone toe-to-toe and been the better team.

Never mind the recent run of reversals, that is progress. It's great to have a manager again who just wont accept cowering away at those places.
Your right mate, we are going into every match and playing the way we want to play and playing well, i thought we were very unlucky to lose today, matched chelsea i thought.

To be honest, I thought we'd have more of the ball than Chelsea pre-kickoff anyway.

I thought so too. But that is part of the progress isn't it?

In fact I thought Chelsea would be potent on the break and in the final third but Everton were never letting them get going today and snuffed out everything they tried.

Watch Mourinho's interview on the BBC. He begrudges accepting another team has got the better of his teams and he pretty much concedes it happened today.

Our main problem is that we're seemingly incapable of being consistent over an entire season. It's been this way for years.

It's not Martinez's fault though, and it wasn't really Moyes's either, we've just never had the finances to fill out the squad with several more quality players that the top teams can afford to rotate and freshen up. We've never really had a consistent striker either which, if you want to be competing at the top, is an absolute must.

I think we've been very consistent so far this season. The possession game has mainly worked in our favour.

The big problem is the goals and finishing. There is no one in the squad capable of 10+ goals every season. Nevermind having 2 of them to charge into the top 4.

Probably why he said it was a good game. He knows we went to play football and win the game.

lukau's obviously 10+.

mirallas really should be but too inconsistant.

but you're right. we have a lot off pretty good attackers, but none of them score enough really.

Our top 3 strikers are -

Lukaku - 9
Mirallas - 5
Coleman - 5

Compared to the RS -

Suarez - 23
Sturridge - 16
Gerrard - 7

Massive gulf.

can take gerrard away from that, because nobody should be given that many pens to score. they're a bit different to us though. they play two up top and their prime focus is to lump it over the top and look to those two to score. we have many more options and spread the goals around the team.

but yeah, if you look at the money they've had to spend on suarez, sturridge, borini, aspas, alberto etc.

when we have only paid a fee for 1 of our 4 strikers.

it'll be our number one target in the summer that's for sure. it would be the final piece of the jigsaw imo.

Big time.

And he might be laughed at a far bit, but there's also Kone to come back. Not the answer, but he's still a striker who can do a job.

I quite agree.

For long spells, especially in the first half, we played them off the park. What frustrated me was we went backwards too often from promising positions. Having said that, I didn't believe we could go to chelsea and dominate so much. We need Rom back though.
