Roberto Martinez discussion

You're a bonafide idiot who rallied against Martinez before he even got the job. How many times did Deulofeu touch the ball when he came on? How about last week?

The meltdown from more than a few on here at any adverse result is almost at parody point.
So 36 points from the last 81 at home is good enough, if not then you are an idiot?

You're not an idiot, so you should see that most of the backlash and cries of knee jerk is against certain types of posters who don't seem to be able to handle defeats and seem to think everything is "players crap or boss" or "manager is crap or boss"

It's childish and irritating flipflopping and it's all over these threads.

I personally love all the positive things he brings to the club on and off the pitch, and see in the youth teams and opportunities for young players that he has a good vision for the club. I've seen some absolute muck from our club down the years, so whilst waiting to see what an extended period under this boss might bring, I am able to accept some bad days and even that crap season we just had.

In fact I think fans should accept that a team with so many young players will be inconsistent, and curb the fume accordingly. (although it was some of the more senior players who were stinking it out today)

All the stuff about great young potential infuriates me. You're also not an idiot, do you see these fabulous youth players sticking around if we finish consistently mid table? You may argue that we won't finish mid table, bit if that's the case our form/consistency needs to pick up dramatically. It is easy to focus on the negatives after defeat, but today was abysmal and on the back of our greatest opportunity in a good while to beat the RS not being for filled and with Arsenal next this isn't a day for me to feel positive.

to be honest mate, watching mangoworms getting squeeze out of a dog in Gambia is more interesting than watching us play today.

Its his 3rd season in charge and that's enough time to be able to implement your style for the players to adapt. Ironically as time has passed it seems we are become worse at his ideology. During his first season we looked exactly what we should have. After that the passing bas become worse in his 2nd and 3rd season. With the odd boss result at home where we sit back and let teams come to us and then score on the counter, we are getting worse at opening defenses.

Going 1 or 2 goals down only to ignite a spark to move quicker isn't good enough. Shock results like WBA away won't happen all the time. You need to keep the shop shut for as long as possible and maybe nick a 1-0 sometimes. He has had adequate funds to buy where he needed to and that's the no 10 spot. Yet he chose to get another winger in. That's baffling in itself as he never plays 2 wingers and the 1 winger he does play seems to be isolated on the wing. His midfield of Barry and Mccarthy look boss when all you expect of them is to shield the back four but the minute you need to pass the wall forward the midfield struggles, hence the sideways passing, the defence stepping up to press and we're exposed on the counter.

The last point I want to make is regarding his substitutions and tactics. They are becoming as predictable as Moyes bringing Hibbert on after 75th mins. He needed to show some guille today. Why wait till half time when you're 2-0 down after 20 mins? Bring Kone or Mirallas on, change the system maybe, move Barkley with Mccarthy/Barry and take one of them off. Mirallas is much better on set pieces anyway. Or he could have have Lennon and Del on either wing and asking them to drive into the box looking for a penalty. With the pace of those 2 with Barkley in between the attack would have been much quicker.

I thought the only thing that was good about them was they defended rigidly and had almost 11 players behind the ball. They picked us off through our own bad defending.

They defended well, we didn't.

Yeah but most teams who defend well against us don't try to attack. They do that against most teams and they will win most matches. Consider the massive difference in quality in most positions and that result is exactly how it should be
