Roberto Martinez discussion

I don't think it is.

We should be playing with 2 wingers, especially without the fullback threat we've relied on for so long.

Or Kone and a winger. Naismith started over Kone today, and we looked much better when Arouna came on, alas it was too little, too late.

He's started with no wingers this season and we've romped home to victories, so I dont know where that leaves any theory about playing wingers.

Only because Cleverley got injured.

I agree though. It'll be a measure of how far we've come when that clown Naismith is never getting a sniff of a game.

When he is sold basically then Dave, until then he will occasionally 1 in 10 have a game like Chelsea or such and then feature for 8-9 games as a starter that effectively renders us playing with 10 men at times.

Sorry but Martinez needs to live to the motto he likes to use as a template for what he is building, nothing but the best - stop with the favourites who all it takes is one good game to get back into the team for weeks of awful performances, stop with the rigidity of having to play two defensive mids no matter what when they don't compliment each other and render us reliant on a 21 year old for any creativity every game, stop with the Moyes like obsession with playing a central player wide left every [Poor language removed] week and start playing with confidence in the team to go out and get a result

It all starts with the manager Dave, he does a hell of a lot of things the right way, just he has flaws that he isn't showing any signs of changing

we had a really attacking bench today and he makes one sub whilst the game had something left in it, and another when it was lost and couldn't be arsed doing a third, one great season, one terrible one and right now this one is varying between the two - would the real Martinez please stand up

Then Dave why re-sign Mirralas, why sign Lennon and why sign deulofeu and why try to sign Yarmolenko another winger for big money.

Only to not then play more than one in a game to accommodate Kone, Naismith or Cleverley

It's not just that barry/macarthy are automatic starters, its that they both continue in their 2 man dm set up, no matter what the situation in the game, or how the opposition are set it, it's a comfort blanket that the manager simply can't get over

More and more i am convinced that Martinez doubts himself as being able to sort a defence out and it's why he is playing those two no matter what, scars left by his Wigan days and conceding bucketloads, the fact he thinks Howard is a good keeper and a part of the plans going forward makes me think he is part right about his doubts

The personnel wasn't the issue though fundamentally. The attitude wasn't there. There was no pace and urgency about Everton today. Why? I dont know. International break and not refocussing after it; the terrible news about HK which must have taken the whole organisation aback (I know I was...I couldn't have given a flying one about that game there today, tbh).

I dont think this season is veering between season one and season two, not given who we've had to play. This season is way toward the season one end of the spectrum.

Where do you expect us to finish? Presumably 6th or 7th then?

Disagree Dave, we have had two complete performances out of 11 games (Saints and Chelsea), 5 that we have played very badly in and then played well second half of the game and 4 that can be best described as meh performances (Spurs, the rs, Swansea and City)

When you lose a hero - parent, sibling, friend, colleague - usually all you can do is mourn.

When you are a paid member of Everton FC
and you lose a hero on the day you get to play one of our biggest rivals I think you get out there and play out of your skin.

The last thing HK would have wanted on the day he died would be a pathetic listless excuse for an Everton performance against, of all possible opponents, the mancs.

I posted elsewhere earlier that this has been one if the worst days for me as a Blue in 46 years. It feels as bad to me as the 0-5 derby in 82.

The greatest Evertonian in our history died hours before. You don't think this might have affected the players just a little bit too?

Sure they're professionals, but they're human beings too.

Any excuse to have a dig you carts. This site gets worse by the day.

Losing 3 nil to the future Champions is one of those things.

Well you're a big tough man aren't you :)

IMO, Mirallas was resigned purely to get the full value for him when he is sold...soon probably.

We've got Lennon and Deulofeu (McGeady is not a contender). That's who are wingers are chosen from. Not a lot of players in reality.
