Roberto Martinez documentary

Some recent former manager pedigree of Barcelona managers before taking charge of the Catalans:

Rijkard - Sparta Rotterdam
Pep - Barcelona B
Vilanova - Palafrugell, Barcelona B
Setien - Las Palmas, Betis

...but you dont think a manager of Premier League clubs and the best Belgian manager of all time would be considered.

Unreal.

I never said he wouldn’t be considered, please tell me where I’ve said that?

Also crying and cringing at this.

...why? It's not like I'm saying best Welsh manager of all time. Belgium are an elite football nation.

And if they had a decent manager they might actually win sommet.

Martinez is a good fit for an international manager, but lets face it, he has utterly failed at delivering a pot to this elite nation.
The Belgians had it in the bag in the WC SF if Lukaku takes his chances. All a manager can do is get a team to the right situation and send them out to win a game...if the players fail in rolling out the game plan that's not down to the manager.

That was peak Belgium. They simply failed to grasp their moment in history in Russia.

Didnt those same players dig him out against Japan?

I really dont know why you have this worship of him. He is a terrific bloke, but fundamentally flawed as an elite manager. Same as Southgate.

Well let's see where he ends up next. I'd think that my estimation of his abilities tallies with a top club owner and DoF rather than the low opinion some / many Evertoniansd have of him.

Three seasons here and he gave us our best PL season since the 80s glory period and he got us to a couple of semi finals. Three seasons....and look what we've done since hiring a bunch of frauds who spent half a billion.

If some people dont cut him some slack over that then that's their problem not mine.

Martinez will end up at one of the following:

Barcelona
Spurs
Newcastle

...Spurs are absolute bankers to go for him if Nuno has a bad few weeks after the break.

And he will do nothing at any of them.

Your obsession with him is pretty weird man.
The obsession is yours.

I see a manager who did very well at first here and then fell away badly (but still getting us into the latter stages of a couple of cup competitions). A manager who doesn't deserve to be lumped in with the catastrophes who succeeded him right up to Benitez's appointment. That's balanced...in comparison to you.

Because you see a manager who failed for three years and deserves to be treated worse than the failures who succeeded him....and you feel the need to promote that BS assessment at every turn.

THAT is a very twisted obsession.

Yes. Yes they did. But Dave ignores the fact that Lukaku and the like are the primary reason for any of his success while simultaneously blaming them for his lack of winning something.
