Thats the point mate. Every now and again, it clicked. But it clicked despite the flaws in his management. I dont hate him, I was sad he couldnt adapt to full time, day to day elite(ish) management, at club level.

Thats why the Belgium job is perfect for him. Magic players that he can pick to play the footie he wants to play. But you and I could do that.
I think we'll see in the next few seasons when he gets another crack at club football what he's learned.

Did he need elite players to see off Man City at Wembley?

He had the Dog & Duck beating a team managed by a 'superstar' manager with half a billion worth of talent at his disposal.

He can work with all levels of player: proved that at Swansea and Wigan with limited quality; at Everton with decent quality; now at Belgium with top quality.

I'm not sure why some Evertonians feel it's necessary to drag this manager down and call him rubbish and average when his record suggests otherwise.

Of course, if he was chased out of Everton then there's a vested interest in claiming that to have been vindicated as an act.

To be fair, the majority of people in this thread, and other threads, don't have anything bad to say about him as a person. Most are constructively critiquing him as a manager.

Only you are taking offence at any slight criticism. He has flaws, he is not perfect and the sooner you realise this the better.

I often criticised him - he ended McCarthy's career prematurely for one, and I always criticise that; I also accepot he had a poor attitude to dfending and generally doing the ugly side of the game.

But that doesn't take away from the fact we saw him take bog standard players and had them bossing Wenger's Arsenal at the Emirates and handing us a points total we wont reach again for years.

Points won in Everton Premier League seasons:

53 44 50 61 42 40 43 50 42 43 59 39 61 50 58 65 63 61 54 56 63 72 47 47 51 49 54 49 59

...an utter miracle.

His average points per season was 55.

Moyes average points per season 57.

He was a decent manager but he wasn't good enough ultimately.

Not at least playing in a final with this Belgium team would be a failure. You're right they aren't England, they're better.

I would think the players disagree with him if you looked at their comments after the 2018 world cup. I think failed is the exact word some of them used.

This is their golden generation, not just one of or another. That team feels like they've gotta win if belgium is gonna win anything anytime soon. 2022 I think is the last chance. The pipeline doesn't look good after that.

So yea I think they would view it as a failure if they don't win a trophy within the next 4 years.

I like him and I liked that he got us as a club and did stuff in the community. Remember, he brought back HK after Moyes refused. But as a coach, dear oh dear
