His first signing will be Danny Simpson.

Poster on Everton forum saying deal is done just dependant on Martinez getting Everton job. Also Anichebe is a big fave of his and will use him as spearhead of attack. Tried to sign them both for Wigan last year.

We all know wigan are crap. Martinez ultimately failed to build a good enough team there, fair enough.

But I think there are positive signs in the job he did there, that suggest that he could do better with better players.

In fairness any manager can do a better job with better players.

The skill in management is getting the best from what you've got & that means adapting your preferred style if necessary.

Funnily enough I've dug out the match report of the game at Goodison I mentioned, in which Wigan were bobbins & gubbed 3-1 - Martinez after match comments were;

""I was extremely proud of the performance. You cannot be a soft touch at places like Goodison Park but if you are going to lose, this is the way to do it.

"At the start of the season, I would take a good performance over the result"

I rest my case....

I just hope that Roberto Martinez isn't reading this thread.

Everton FC seems to be morphing into Sad Sack F.C.

I can understand United fans being underwhelmed at having Moyes foisted upon them adter Fergie.....but us?

In one bound we are free of a very negative manager whom was just biding his time until he could "move on to better things" (his words, not mine).

In his stead we look like having a progressive young coach whom will be handed better tools so we can now see what he is made off.

Everton are on the cusp of a new paradigm.

Embrace it, you guys.

Let's give Roberto a chance......heck, let him even get the job in the first place....before heaping all the Sad Sackism on his head.

If by some chance you are reading this, Roberto.......Bienvenido a Everton.

So you don't like Moyes then?

He was the one who started Swansea's style of play, which Brenda and Laudrup are taking credit for.

He's clearly got a lot of pros and his cons have questions marks over them, that could be answered with our better players, wage bill and attractiveness for players.

Also he seems like a classy bloke; I would not be embarrassed to see someone like him representing us, as he conducts himself with a bit of integrity.

It may all go tits up but if he's appointed the new Everton boss he has my full support.

Spot on that post Rufus. How are you doing btw?

TBF it took Davey 11 years to learn how to attack. If he is appointed he'll be given time and support to sort it out......

So true, I think we can be blinkered with Moyes, he only encouraged attacking football since the Liverpool semi defeat BUT that came at a cost of clean sheets.....

Martinez, will bring passing , attacking football no doubt but he will be blessed with the defensive mentality already established within the team, backroom and coaches. How can anyone have major concerns that we will go from a solid defensive team to that likened to Wigan??? disrespectful to ourselves and our players, I am sure Jags / Distin and even Heitinga will argue that debate.

I feel that with a good solid chain of command with already established set up we will show some excellent signs of progression. We have the players to help Martinez to learn how to defends when needed and we also have the players to attack with fluent quick passing.

Martinez offers solid knowledge of expectations, demands and requirements of the premier league with the flair of the spanish game, which everyone was craving until the german set up become the buzz word.

I believe this move will help the reputation of Moyes striker graveyard and I think we may even see Jelavich gain confidence and go and score goals rather than been asked to chase the channels and pick up scraps

Martinez, I am happy for you to come and will get behind you....

Ouch, not a great quote. Stands in the shadows of Brendans classic Sunderland one though.

Don't think GOT would have been going when Moyes first joined us. If it had I'm sure a lot of the comments about his appointment would have been negative - inexperienced, never managed at the top level, couldn't get promoted with Preston etc - and probably ****ging the board for lack of ambition. Any choice is a risk. My preference would be Vitor, but have only really paid any attention to him over the past few weeks. Matinez could be an inspired choice or a complete flop. Just hope Bill knows what he is doing on this one as he obviously did with Moyes.

Everyone is assuming that Roberto is a shoe-in, but this may not be the case.
Whelan says that Everton asked for permission to speak to Roberto if talks broke down over him staying at Wigan. If we are that keen on him than why not ask permission even if he had decided to stay, to persuade him Everton would be a better option for him? Why give up so easily?
Whelan also stated that Roberto is always honest and that his decision to leave was based on not feeling equipped to win promotion with Wigan and not because he fancied a bigger job elsewhere. If true, this means he was leaving Wigan regardless of any interest from other clubs and there is not necessarily a guarantee from Everton that he would be the favoured candidate among those interviewed.

Perhaps this isn't the done-deal people are assuming.

Think about this, when Martinez took Wigan over did they have a team that was better or worse than Everton when Moyes took over 11 years ago?
After 4 years in charge, where did Everton finish? We all know Wigan were relegated.

I wanted a manager who'd proved himself capable of winning trophies with a team massively outspent by their competitors.

That's why I kept naming guys like Giroud or Sampaoli or Simeone and swerving the likes of Hughes and Benitez.

Martinez fits that category, can't ask for more than that.
