Roberto's records

Jay

Player Valuation: £8m
Current Everton records (Premier League era only):
Maximum Points = 65
Most wins in one season = 19
minimum losses in one season = 7
Most goals scored in one season = 64
minimum goals conceded in one season = 33

Current season on track to break the above records:
- We need 8 points to reach 66 points, its not a matter of "if" we will break that record, it's about "with how many more points" we will break it

- We need 3 more wins to match the 19 wins in one season, 4 wins to better it, ill be surprised if we don't break that record too

- We can afford one more defeat, 2 more defeats and we will match the record

- 18 goals short to match the 64 goals scored in one season, which means we will have to score 2+ goals in each of the remaining games, record unlikely to be broken

- We conceded 30 goals so far (average 1 goal a game), record wont be broken or matched

So Martinez in his first season is on track to break the record of the most points gained in one season, most wins and less defeats, all these and some people used to consider Moyes as a club legend :D

I've been a massive advocate of Martinez since his Swansea days to me he was the best young manager bar none now I say he's the best manager full stop.

The stats are very nice but as ever it's reading between the lines that's important.

This man can actually "manage" he makes the right decisions and when he talks you listen he is naturally inspirational and believes in football being constructive and skilful rather than athletic and percentage based.

It is virtually mission impossible here taking on the monied crew 9 managers out of 10 would default to the percentage game but he's taking the longer view for success rather than just existing.

We should cheer him and the boys non stop for what they're trying even when it's going tits up, it's a brave thing in the greatest traditions of our club. Those not taking him to their heart are making a huge mistake the very top clubs are already being mentioned alongside his name appreciating what he's doing might be our only defence against them.

He's our manager now not the other fella, he's our Blue Bobby, make sure he knows it.

I thought about this he other day, we have had a fourth place with 65 points I think, and a fifth with 66 as best results in the premier league in terms of place and points tally. Bobby has said in an interview that he has set a target with 70 points or more and he is adamant that champions league is on. Ambitious but with Arsenals form lately it's possible. Regardless I think this will be our best season in the Premier League ever, and this is only the first season under Martinez.

I suppose it was only a matter of time, but even I didn't think it would be this soon.

Has Roberto already outgrown Everton?

If Martinez’s side secures Europa League or even Champions League football, then what more can he realistically achieve at the club?

Indeed, what could a manager who takes us from 6th to 4th on -13mil spend possibly do with the same club and the massive financial windfall of getting into the CL?

Idiots.

What a load of tosh! Out grown us already, really?! It says there that if we want to go out and spend substantial amounts of money on the likes of Lukaku, we WILL have to sell either Baines or Barkley. We dont though. Martinez as done brilliantly with his tranfer business, in the summer and january.

Martinez purposely didnt reinvest any of the money he recouped from sales in january as he doesnt like the market, prices are sky high that month and he knows you can get better deals in the summer.

There is money in the kitty, then they'll be another piece of the tv money coming in that he'll get towards that, and then IF he makes CL he'll get a bit more to go on and buy that required quality to give the CL a proper go and after that it's about sustaining that challenge of getting in the CL on a regular basis to then bring in the finances that does over a period of time to eventually allow us to build a team/squad capable of going further domestically!

That is the challenge for Martinez at Everton. He knows the score when it comes to our finances, he knows he as to do the best with the little money he as, wheel and deal and then get the best out of the group of players he as and hopefully get us into that CL as he knows the finances from that will enhance us even further.

Thats why i actually dont mind him dipping into the loan market for young talents such as Lukaku and Deulofeu. Like Martinez says, these lads have summat to prove, they dont just turn up and toss it off, they want to show there worth as there trying to prove to there parent clubs there good enough and if there performances help us out to where we want to be (champions league) then im all for it. It's part of his plan, he knows he hasnt got great riches but if he can entice young talent to the club to help us out and try and bridge the gap then he will do so.

Martinez hasnt out grown the club, he's starting off something special!

You have to consider the nature of the PL changes each year - more and more goals are scored as the game becomes more attack-based. The PL is a different beast to what it was even 5 years ago.

Read that article and it's been put together in 5 minutes by an idiot who knows absolutely zero about anything.

"From his time at Everton, Swansea City and Wigan Athletic, Martinez has proven himself ready for a test at one of the division’s leading sides."
Actually he is already at one of the divisions leading sides, look at the leagues finishes for the past 7-8 years, look at the fact we've finished above the rs two years running, look at the fact that we've been the only team besides spurs recently to break into the top 4 outside the sky 4 (now sky 5)

"He has already proven himself capable of operating smartly on a limited budget and his ability to bring out the best in youth is evident in the progress of Barkley, Coleman and John Stones this season."
Coleman is 25, not exactly a youth player but in his prime, played very well under Moyes last year, just because this 'reporter' only heard of him when the papers started mentioning him to United doesn't mean he's a youth player just broken through lol

"Full-backs Leighton Baines and Seamus Coleman have flourished in a system which encourages them to attack at almost every opportunity. Ross Barkley has enjoyed a breakout season, having been afforded the creative licence to attack."
Baines form has actually been down on last year so writers wrong their, Oviedo actually adapted to the system better and only now does Baines seem to be starting to find last years form, Barkleys breakout season has nothing to do with being given creative license to attack, its come down to actually being played and not castigated by the manager for any mistake

"The most inspired acquisition however, has been Romelu Lukaku. With 11 league goals already to his name, Jose Mourinho’s decision to loan the Belgian out continues to baffle."
It only baffles people who haven't watched us besides on MOTD highlights, Lukaku is raw, immensely talented but raw, think nearly all of us can agree that Mourinho knew what he was doing loaning him out as he wanted a better technical level from his strikers. Also McCarthy has been a more important acquisition but this reporter hasn't seen us play obviously so can be excused for not actually having a clue

"Players of Barry’s experience and Deulofeu’s promise aren’t common in the loan market and Everton don’t possess the financial clout to buy such players outright."
A look around the loan markets every season show that actually, players of a very high level are constantly available, its just a lot of the time their either used badly by a manager, or simply not mentioned as it's not in the premiership, Courtois, De Bruyne, Bojan, Beckham at Milan, Sturridge at Bolton, Lukaku at Wets brom, Remy at Newcastle, Klinsman at totenham, Campbell at us, Keane to Celtic and Leeds, Arteta to us, Davids to Barca, Moorientes to Monaco, never mind the ton of young players loaned around Spain who massively improve some teams, i just listed the successful ones, a host of other top players have had loans that didn't work out, funnily enough a lot of them across the park Anelka and Sahin as two examples would they have worked with a manager who knew what he was doing?

"For Everton to make a substantial splash in the transfer market, one of their most valuable assets will have to be sold. The vultures are already circling around the likes of Baines and Barkley."
Vultures like this hack, the fact he mentions Baines when since Jan and the new contract i haven't seen one link with him moving, most media are linking Coleman so yet again highlights just how clueless this reporter is like

"Much of their success this season is attributable to their efforts in the loan market. Although he has not been missed at Manchester City, Gareth Barry has enjoyed a renaissance of sorts at Goodison Park, while Barcelona wonderkid Gerard Deulofeu has proven to be the crucial difference on several occasions this season"
Actually ity has more to do with the mentality change brought about by the manager, his belief in players, and his willingness to not lay down and instead go for a result, the use of wonderkid shows the guy gets his knowledge through FM obviously

Some additional ones:
  • First time we've won 4 league games in a row since 2008.
  • 8th successive home win in a row, best run of home form since 1986.
  • 57 points after 30 games - 6 points ahead of what we had at the same stage last season.
  • Also, it is 2 more points from 30 games played than we had the last time we won the league in 1986/87 (55 points after 30 games played).
  • First away win at Man Utd in 21 years.

Made up for Roberto if we better the said records, but this premier league era yardstick stuff really gets on my (bad language removed).

The premier league era counts for just under 1/7th of our existence - so regardless of sky's revisionism of football history it don't stand for much (unless you support Man U or Chelsea that is.)
