Confirmed Signing Robin Olsen

Romero is definitely better, Gazzaniga too probably since he has developed at Spurs, but if Olsen gets his head straight and has some confidence I think he will be a decent keeper for us. Underperforming in Rome can be quite punishing.

World Cup 2018

Fair enough mate. In fairness that's probably where I remember him from and think he's ok come to think of it!

You're far better qualified than me. Roma fans are very critical but reports seem to be he was ok for Calgiari.

As I put in the Lopez thread (what are your thoughts on him?) for whatever reason we are not playing Lossl. That to me was a very odd and poor signing (the closest thing Brands has done to Martina). I expect to see him move to the championship. I think we will go big next summer on a goalkeeper. I have a gut feeling it may be Donnarumma, but if not someone will be brought in. I sense that decision has been made.

Initial thoughts may have been just keep Pickford going for the season, get him in the window, get him through to the Euro's etc. His early blunders have put paid to that. So we get some competition in.

I've not seen the guy, but he's played fo Roma and Calgiari, so "on paper" can step in too, if we want to convince Pickford to move on loan. It's not ideal. I do agree with the view that United/Spurs wouldn't loan us a player as we are competition now. I can imagine that. Mad though it sounds, I wouldn't wholly rule out Pickford out January, Romero in.

Completely agree - neither as bad as their performances, but without a change of club it wont improve for Pickford. Send him to the championship and he might find form, but he hasn't been good enough for two years

I remember one derby game and Karius ulled off a wonder save from Bolasie. The reds I knew just wouldn't have it at all and said he was rubbish. To a degree we/I am probably at that point with Pickford. He's had a good run though, and messed about for a lot of it, so I can't have too mjuch sympathy.

Pau Lopez? Erm he's decent; way better in Spain than Roma but sounds like he'd be expensive and if we're gonna spend "big" on another keeper I'd rather go elsewhere. Olsen can do a job, but Lossl can do a job, Pickford can do a job. For the cheap price Romero was a no brainer to me. Sick of seeing keepers where we don't even need to really know them to know that they've got a fair few howlers in them.

Absolute waste of time. It feels very desperate. He's not seriously challenging Pickford.

Yep he'll perhaps play three games and be dropped at the first mistake. If that.

An expensive way to give Pickford a very mild kick up the arse.

But that said, we can't seriously replace Pickford now this window. I think the penny dropped on just how woeful he is very recently. I was personally giving him the benefit of the doubt until lately too.

I am amazed at how much footie some lads on here must get to watch. I watch quite a bit (far too much according to my missus !) and I haven't seen anywhere near enough to pass authoritative comment on these 3 keepers. We have nothing to lose in bringing in Olsen to either challenge and / or replace Pickford. No long term contract , and he can't be worse than the current version of Pickford. Carlo and Brands obviously don't trust Lossl or Virginia, and I guess that they know far more about what is the correct move than anybody on here. I have a mate who saw Virginia during his loan spell and said that he was shockingly bad , so perhaps it's for the best to have this move to at least have an alternative to Pickford if he continues to under perform.
