Confirmed Signing Robin Olsen

Pau Lopez? Erm he's decent; way better in Spain than Roma but sounds like he'd be expensive and if we're gonna spend "big" on another keeper I'd rather go elsewhere. Olsen can do a job, but Lossl can do a job, Pickford can do a job. For the cheap price Romero was a no brainer to me. Sick of seeing keepers where we don't even need to really know them to know that they've got a fair few howlers in them.

Yes all fair points. I'll try to take each one.

Pickford can do a job, but his job involves lots of mistakes and I think the fans, club, manager and fans have probably had enough.

Lossl can do a job, and I'm surprised we haven't tried him, but patently he's just not rated that highly. I mean Lossl hasnt got 40 international caps, or a club as good as Roma on his CV either and in truth didn't look out of place in the championship. He conceded loads in theprem with Huddersfield too. I suspect if he was a viable competitor, we'd have out him in.

Romero could do a job, but United wanted quite a big fee for a guy with 8 months left. I can understand why we didn't want to pay that. My suspicion is we look to resolve the issue "properly" by next summer. I can imagine Ancelotti, with his comments on Pickford the other day has gone in to Brands and insisted we get someone in. There's not an awful lot of wriggle room.

Even if it means Pickford is out for 6-8 games, it may be the last throw of the dice for him. I expedct to see Olsen in quite quickly. It's rolling the dice and hope we hit a 6 a bit, but increasingly with Pickford it feels the dice has been rolled.

I mean thinking aloud, the guy who went to Fulham couild have been good, or indeed their understudy. He was impressive in the championship.

Lossl. Virginia.

Just a waste of time. Feels desperate/scrambling around to get any 'keeper - our 3rd choice in the market - backup keeper.

Rightly or wrongly, I don't think we take this course of action if Pickford doesn't make the mistakes he does, particularly on Saturday. That culd be viewed as good/decisive management, or a lack of planning. However scrapping around with 2 days to go doesn't put you in a great slot does it?

Yep he'll perhaps play three games and be dropped at the first mistake. If that.

An expensive way to give Pickford a very mild kick up the arse.

But that said, we can't seriously replace Pickford now this window. I think the penny dropped on just how woeful he is very recently. I was personally giving him the benefit of the doubt until lately too.

Why give Virginia a new deal decently?

Any senior 'keeper we have should be deemed capable of challenging or potentially playing otherwise get rid.

Exactly and that's why it feels short term desperation to me.

Virginia doesn't count the same as Tyrer doesn't count. It is funny we have Lossl because he is probably one of two GKs with PL experience in recent years that I'd say is worse than Pickford with the other being Kepa.

Olsen will be the backup, he will come in when Pickford drops one in the net again (I'm putting my money on the Newcastle game) and he will stay in net until a proper replacement comes in during January or next summer.

Romero was the one. It's quite eerie how you wouldn't find a single United fan that doesn't rate him. Whilst £8m on a keeper with less than a year left is quite a bit he would be worth it. I genuinely don't see us getting Europe with Pickford or Olsen in nets.

I'm not sure it could be anything other than that, at this late stage. I appreciate the disappointment, but if we can go and get a proper replacement sorted for next year, thats good enough for me.

I am happy to wait a season for Donnarumma!

Absolute waste of time. It feels very desperate. He's not seriously challenging Pickford.
I’m taking it as Lossl wanted to go back to the championship to play and we weren’t comfortable with it unless we had someone more experienced than Virginia to replace him. So it helps Lossl more than it does anyone else.
