Confirmed Signing Robin Olsen

Not likes it’s not been coming though he’s been utter pony for years, since the day he walked through the door he’s made mistake after mistake

The last 2 seasons he's been questionable. As someone mentioned, the Derby blunder is probably where it went south for him and he's never recovered.

Warrant a complete replacement? Arguably not. That is until now where if you look at the squad as a whole...he's a weak link.

It'll be sorted. Just not now.

A very good post @BlueToff think it should have been read in this thread so I quote it

I don't think we were ever going to 'replace' Pickford. I don't know why people convinced themselves otherwise.

The club clearly started the window trusting Pickford. I'd wager up until the Fleetwood match there was actually no real intent to even try for another GK; if an opportunity came up then we'd maybe make a move, hence the Romero intermediary chat.

The Brighton game the other day was the final push for us to go and get a stop-gap in to push Pickford, who now has this season to save his Everton career – he's "on notice", as it were. If he doesn't pick up, we have a better back-up ready and waiting to take his place. We clearly wanted Romero and United blocked that move. Olsen was the one available with the budget we have.

The Kean one is weird. It's not so much replacing him, it's just we needed a bit more quality in that area of the squad anyway imo. A forward who is versatile enough to play in a few positions.

Had we got Tomori on loan, we wouldn't have got Godfrey and maybe that money had been earmarked for a forward. Perhaps with the injuries we've had we've again had to allocate funds we had earmarked for one position to defence. But Godfrey looks like he could be a great addition for us.

Overall I'm thrilled with the players we got in. We've got a very good box-to-box player who has Prem experience, and then Allan who has slotted straight in. In James we've got the best player I've ever seen in an Everton shirt, in terms of his technical ability on the ball.

If we go and get King then it could give us another option and while I'm not buzzing at the idea of it, it'd be decent. Though i'm yet to see any evidence we actually are in for him, it's just more a gut feeling.

FC Copenhagen - games played 100 - goals conceded 82.

Malmo - games played 75 - goals conceded 83

Roma - games played 35 - goals conceded 58

Cagliari - games played 19 - goals conceded 29

PAOK Thessaloniki - games played 19 - goals conceded 18

Sweden - games played 38 - goals conceded 31

In a weird way, if this proves to be the case, then the deal will probably have worked, as Pickford will have had to have avoided any other clangers for that to have happened.

Really think he's on his last chance now.
In theory, but there's precious little evidence that would be the case. It's not like Lossl (or Stekelenburg last year) are novices who we'd be scared of putting in, and yet he's repeatedly got away with shambolic performances without being dropped. I can't claim to be an expert on Olsen but nothing that i've seen or read about him suggests he's significantly better than the two mentioned so I don't know that we'd be more likely to use him.

Robin Olsen did well in Malmö and Copenhagen (including Champions League in which he had one of the best save percentages) and shut out Italy in the world Cup play offs helping Sweden to qualify to the world cup. He also did well in the world cup helping Sweden reach the QF.

He was then brought to Roma by Monchi. This transfer however upset a lot of Italian as they were still seething about getting knocked out by Sweden in the QF which was incredibly shocking to the entire nation.

Robin Olsen was never welcomed in Roma. The fans and media were furious about this transfer from the get go. But Robin Olsen didn’t really flop at Roma. That Roma team was [Poor language removed] (like todays Roma) and fans just blamed the decline on a person they already hated because of the WC play offs.

Roma then brought in Pau Lopez and Robin Olsen went on loan to Cagliari to replace a injured Cragno. In Cagliari he was arguably one of the best goalkeepers in the league. Not on level with the very best but better than for instance Pau Lopez.

I don’t know if he will make it in Everton. That seems like a step up to Roma. But he’s not brought in as a first option but rather as a second or third, and he is absolutely good enough for that job.

I can only go by the fact we've gone and got him in mate, and that must mean we think he's better than Lossl, or there had been no point.

Well that's what porne does to you eventually. Affects your your eyes, I believe.......
Master Po (Kwai Chang's instructor on the TV series Kung Fu) had eyes that suggested he 'engaged' with too much porn...

No proof? Come off it.

Not to mention Romero's wife throwing a stop on Instagram last night about Man Utd not letting him go.

For me;

* Pickford has needed competition since day one. He still does.
* Brands brought in Lossl last year on a 3 year deal for apparently on around 50k a month?
* Ancelotti/Brands has spoke of a bloated squad, and Brands the requirement to reduce the wage bill - hence Walcott going on a saving of around £50k a week and Kean.
* People seem to think Olsen will replace Pickford - not for me, Olsen isn't a Pickford replacement, he's a Lossl one.

If Lossl now leaves and goes to Huddersfield or Virginia goes out on loan then fair enough with Olsen, but if not it feels pointless to me. Romero offers Pickford competition, Olsen at best is a mild kick up the arse to him.

Some journalist is not proof. He doesn't even have a blue tick!

Man Utd wanted a transfer for Romero, if we were interested it sounds like we wanted a loan (which makes sense as we will be getting our next full time keeper in the summer)

Pickford doesn't need competition, he just needs to stop being crap. He is not being crap due to lack of competition.

There is no way on earth that Lossl is on 50k a week!

For us to have got Romero (who isn't even that good) we would have needed to buy him, then come summer we would be stuck with another goalkeeper who we would need to shift on on a long deal and high wages.

Where's your proof?
