Wasn't Pickford being Everton's Player of the Season in his first year?

Quite a bit of early talking up of Olsen on the back of one decent game.

It's the Everton way mate, we do it all the time, player comes in, does well after a couple of game, we rave about said player, said player is then crap, those who raved then go on a rant about said player.

Olsen has physical qualities that can make up for some mental errors. He can basically stretch his arms and cover the entire goal from most angles.

Pickford has a lot of physical limitations, so if his mental game isn't up to it - it's gonna be bad.

Physical attributes don't make up for mental errors. If someone has made an error and is still thinking or worrying about it 10 minutes later then there are no physical attributes that help with that. Not sure he can cover the entire goal either....that'd require a strange looking blob of a keeper.

Pickford's "physical limitations" weren't so apparent when he was player of the year which seems peculiar. He is shorter than the average keeper but still a little over 6ft which is big enough with technique and mentality. The latter seems to be his biggest issue from my untrained outside perspective. Being a few inches taller won't help that and in itself presents other issues and a different technical approach for keepers.

Carlo did not drop Pickford, he rotated him and then told the bemused media that he always does this with his goalkeepers. I was bemused as well but now I understand his policy. When you think about it, if you do not have a top class first choice, it is a good idea to rotate, cos it keeps the two not very good keepers on their toes.
