2020/21 Robin Olsen

So Olsen plays 3 individual games and you make a judgement of Pickford being better
Not sure how you can come to that conclusion
A run of 10 games, then I think you can make an informed judgment
On the whole of the 3 games Olsen has been better than any 3 game stretch of Pickford's since the derby error too.

I mean he wasn't perfect tonight but it was essentially Pickford's Leeds performance and most people cite that as proof Jordan is turning the corner.

Pickford is clear number 1 after that game.

Tbf to Olsen that's his first "off" game. All the saves were right at him, his kicking was woeful and he got away with an absolute clanger.
But this is a standard Pickford week?

I'm not saying Olsen was good tonight but he's got one game where he makes two stunning saves and only concedes a pen and a tap in, a clean sheet where he doesn't have tons to do but doesn't screw up, and tonight where he makes some saves, has a nervy moment or two and kicks a bit waywardly. On the balance that's better than Pickford this year, is it not?

Maybe Pickfords whole season but not the last couple of weeks. Olsen was a good, calming influence in the first 2 games but today was the opposite. Of course he wasn't the only one contributing to that. He wasn't very positive with coming off his line and I don't think he's the most vocal. There was a couple of times that I think Pickford would've come for the ball that Olsen didn't.

The last game Pickford played he literally got away with a clanger.

But against Chelsea he arguably made a game winning save off that James volley which is what makes him so frustrating for me
It was a good save but no better than a couple Olsen made tonight.

And he totally flubbed up a free kick and was saved by the post. Which is kind of why I'm saying this tonight from Olsen is a standard Pickford display. Except Olsen does it 33% of the time and Pickford does it what 75%?

Youre correct of course. But Pickfords performances have been good enough recently to put him ahead of Olsen for me. He's nowhere near good enough with the ball.

Pickford is absolutely not the answer long term though.
I think Pickford is poor with the ball too but to me that is a secondary consideration when your keeper isn't making saves.

He got away with clangers in the Chelsea and Arsenal games in his recent ‘improved’ performances.

I’d personally say that Pickford save was genuinely too drawer, but generally I agree with you. I’m really frustrated by tonight but I think it’s a case where Carlo’s getting us slowly in the right direction, and it’s just a case of giving him time to improve the shower he inherited

Take your pick of the 2 5/10 goalkeepers lads, I'm not arsed. Everyone will moan at the one who is picked after 2 games regardless.

He has a bad night with the ball tonight. It's not like his distribution has been awful in the other two games.

Pickford usually belts the ball straight to the opposition keeper himself.

I genuinely don't get the Olsen stick tonight. Even for the "clanger" he made, he managed to calmly rectify it which is the most important thing.

People forget he is Sweden's number one, he's not some random jobber that has been plucked out of nowhere. He is at the very least "alright".

I think that one is overhyped because I think if it goes in we are all rightly fuming that he's been beaten at the near post from outside the box. Well struck yes, deflected yes, but still for me one I'm going to be rolling my eyes at if my keeper isn't saving it. Especially with his record on shots from outside the area this season.
